A Space Cowboy and his Horse
A Space Cowboy and his Horse The asteroid belt was nothing like I thought. I thought there would be asteroids to dodge. No, they are far apart. All the large asteroids belong to someone. Small rocks to the size of a building, you scanned each for valuables. When you found something, you kept it. Trigger could carry five tons. Then we had to unload at Glory. They paid you for what you had found. What you hoped to find were rare earths. What you came back with were metals. They usually paid just enough to do it again.

The Dragon's Triangle
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Now, it is the only place they thrive. Every generation of my family are cursed to live our entire lives here. It is a legacy inherited from our ancestors for the part they played in a abhorrent chapter in the history of our country. We do not bear this shame alone, there are other families bound here too. A magic none of us has the power to influence keeps us tied here and sustains the Veil that separates us from the rest of the world. From time to time, an Outsider who is deemed worthy by the Veil may join us in the Valley but they are few. Only those touched by ancient magic can find our home on Emiko’s Island off the coast of Japan in a lethal region known as The Dragon's Triangle.

Playing to Win
I wasn’t talking to Jenny because of the trick she’d played about my needing to wear a netball skirt, but still badly wanted to improve my game so Emily wouldn’t have to see my losing to her little daughter each week. That left Morgan, who as you might imagine played quite a lot of sports with other girls who belonged to her so-called community. Sure enough she said they could fit me in for netball when they met that weekend.

Duskwood: My AI pt 4
I watch as he paces around the room muttering to himself. It’s fascinating how human he is. His movements, the way he runs his hands through his hair, bites at his fingernails and puts his hands on his hips when he stops. It’s uncanny how human he seems in moments like these. After a while of torturing me by whispering under his breath, he plops back down beside me on the edge of the bed. I give him a moment to organize his thoughts, before asking the obvious.

Duskwood: My AI Pt 3
It had been a week since Jake had moved into the apartment with me. The idea that he could be taken from me at any moment, left me feeling a million different emotions at once. Part of me wanted to experience all there was with him, but the rest of me knew that the closer we got, the worse it would feel if he disappeared. We spent most of our days getting to know each other again, which felt strange. We’d spent a year getting to know each other digitally, and although the better part of two years had passed since, nothing had changed.

Duskwood: My AI pt 2
He doesn’t notice me approaching, so I clear my throat to alert him. His head snaps up as he slides his phone into his pocket. Just as he does, my phone chimes. I decide not to check it, which might have been a mistake. I’d have caught on to what was happening much quicker if I had. Maybe? I might have overlooked the signs even as they stared me in the face. Literally.

The Creation of Earth
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Before earth and man, there were gods and goddesses on a world created by the father of gods Titanicus. Titanicus left the world with the hope of peace and unification and named it Caelum. Before he vanished, he left his two beloved sons Abicus and Neffron to rule in his stead and vanished. The two brothers loved each other each other very much. The bond between them was inseparable.

The White Oak
"In 1585, Sir Walter Raleigh founded the colony of Roanoke," Mr. Smith, a large, balding man informed the bus's occupants from where he stood. The rain was coming down in streams over the windows, causing them to fog over with condensation from the breath of the twenty-seven sixteen-year-old, two seventeen-year-olds, and three adult chaperones. Most of them consisted of jocks or kids slapped with the 'troubled teen' sticker. So, obviously, most of them weren't paying a lick of attention to his drawing lecture. They were either butting heads over seats or talking to friends.

The Skirt Scare
I was at netball practice. Five minutes in I caught the ball then stood with feet rooted to the ground, knowing that the way these girls played I didn’t have much more than a heartbeat or two. Fright overcame me and I fumbled the pass so that Suzette, who was on the other team, smartly swept it up. I groaned at my own hopelessness. Why wasn’t I getting any better?
