The Last Valley
May 20th, 982 A.D Coast of Northern England There weren't always dragons in the valley. First there were men, women and children, mostly Christian survivors who pilgrimed to the Valley of Rue after the fall of the Roman Empire. Following centuries of reconstruction, and the bloody push to spread Christianity throughout the land, merciless Vikings from the north began their century-long invasion of the Saxon land, and its people. Along with their sharpened broad swords, thick shields, nautical expertise and fearless honor, they also brought with them the savage will of their Pagan God’s. Odin and his leather-bound legions clashed against God and his silk-worn warriors. Valhalla sought to unhinge the countless falsities of Heaven’s ridiculous promises, while Heaven campaigned to denounce Valhalla’s existence entirely.

The Royal House | Chapter 1 | The Crew
I woke up on the morning of Sunday, January 12th, and went on my daily three-mile run. On my way home, I stopped by the usual hole-in-the-wall coffee shop for breakfast; ham and cheese on a bagel, and went back home. I put my keys in the door to my apartment, took a shower, and went to the mirror to shave. I spread shaving cream over my short beard and took the razor to it. After putting on some aftershave, I studied my appearance. I'm a fairly short man, only five foot nine inches, with dirty blonde hair, and a lean build. The most curious feature, however, were my eyes, one gold, one silver. After getting dressed for the day, in simple jeans and a t-shirt, and went to my kitchen to eat my bagel. There was a letter on the table that hadn’t been there when I got home. I looked around cautiously before grabbing it and slitting the top of the envelope, to take out the letter. All there was was an address and time:

Friend in the Stars.
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley, but that’s because they always knew where to hide. What rocks best matched their scales, where the clouds obscured the careless eye of a villager and the quietest part of the sky to seek refuge. Many had thought dragons to be extinct were it not for a handful of calculated appearances from the omnipotent creatures, for to be extinct would mean to accept defeat, which a dragon simply would not do. The nature of dragons was unmatched by any other creature. Not the giants, the sphinxes or the genies could match their self-interest or self-preservation, their cunning and intelligence. It has always been hard to tell if dragons would be classified as evil or good beings; some considered them an extension of the Goddess Avadi and sent here to do their will, whereas others thought they were Avadi in a new form.

A Souls Sacrifice
They say it was raining that night, they say it had been the coldest winter rainfall in decades. It cascading to the ground as heavy as a tidal wave in the ocean. I knew my lungs weren’t burning from lack of oxygen. How did we get here, how did I lose you?

The Rogue Dragon
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Which is a very lovely thought and most likely a great story to tell but this is not the time to live in daydreams. I live in the here and now, the harsh reality of constantly chasing my next meal. And dwelling on fantasies of a world where ferocious fire-breathing overgrown lizards don't exist does not help me put food on the table.

Isn't It Funny for Attics?
In the room, no one was talking. The silence was deafening here. The only sound that could be heard was the single ‘tick’ of the grandfather clock sitting at the corner of the dark room. All I could do was stand there, feeling like I’ve been doing that all day, standing.

The Stranger
Sleeping in a deteriorating boat did not suit me well, but at least I had made it through the night alive. The morning sun peaked through the tiny holes in the blue tarp covering me in my shelter, and the warmth of the rays on my face let me know that I needed to make a move. I didn’t have time to waste resting any longer, the exoskeleton soldiers could have a trace on me.
