There weren't always dragons in the Valley. In fact, there were not any other known species besides us at all. In beginning, the primaries were the ones who decided to call this place the "Valley". In the year 3276, the primaries ( the first Vallians) touched ground on the Valley after a long journey across the multiverse. Since then, homo sapiens have been the only species known to this planet, until about a week ago when my friends and I discovered a the mysterious egg.
It has been almost three centuries since our ancestors discovered the "Valley"; a replica of earth that was found two universes away from ours. After the depletion of earth's resources in the late 2900s, humans had to seek refuge on Mars for quite a while. Reserves on Mars were quite scarce, so the search for a more permanent home never ceased. After nearly two centuries on Mars, our ancestors were finally able to locate what is now called the Valley. It was evident that this planet had four times the amount of reserves and resources that earth initially held, so the preparations began. The journey across the multiverse was the most significant and exceptional event of our time. It was not that long ago when the existence of a multiverse was merely a scientific hypothesis with no implication whatsoever.
My grandfather was one of the primaries who first touched down on this planet. The ship he boarded when he left Mars landed on Doarth; one of fifteen continents to exist on the Valley. There were seven ships in total, and each one landed on a different continent. The people who were on my grandfather's ship happened to settle with their families on Doarth, and that is where we currently live. Stories of that historic day are still told and taught to all generations.
Of course, the Valley's geography was almost identical to that of earth. There were valleys ten times greater than the Grand Canyon, mountains five times higher than Mt. Everest, and rivers three times wider than the Nile. One could not even begin to fathom the depth and size of the oceans, not to mention the magnificence and prosperity of the forests. The Valley was without any doubt one of the greatest discoveries in the history of mankind.
Nevertheless, the primaries were a bit skeptical about our survival on this planet when they first got here. There appeared to be no indication of life anywhere, hence no viable food source, which lead them to believe that the Valley was not conducive to our species' continuation and self preservation. A few days after landing on the Valley, they decided to designate a group of our best archaeologists, geologists, and specialists across the continents to begin their research and look for any signs of previous life.
As years of extensive research went by, the research team managed to uncover years worth of ancient Vallian history. They discovered fossils, artifacts, burial grounds, ruins and ancient texts which were all indicative of past life. The data suggested that life quite similar to ours may have existed here at one time. They also discovered fish and even reptiles in the fossils they excavated. This resulted in an immediate excursion across the huge ocean, but we didn't find aquatic life until we were about 20 kilometers away from land. The research team always had places to go and explore, they would always clear the areas were they have been for the curious minds.
The primaries and their direct descendants were able to construct magnificent cities and towns around Doarth, making life considerably easier and much more practical to my generation and the ones to come. My friends and I loved exploring aspects of our new home. Even though we did not really have any memories of Earth or Mars, we were always shown simulations, videos, and pictures of how life was like back then which we compared life to.
A week ago, the four of us went on an adventure to further explore the forest we usually go to, which is about 5 kilometers away from my town. We were fascinated by the structure of the trees, the abundancy of flowers, fruits, and plants. When we arrived at the two-way path, the three of us agreed to go right per usual, except the eldest friend who wanted to go left this time.
''We always go right, it is time to explore the other side of the forest!'' Darren exclaimed.
I shrugged my shoulders and replied, '' You know we cannot go there yet, the research team has not cleared this route yet for anyone to go.''
Darren rolled his eyes at us and shouted, '' I want to be the one to discover something for once, it is unfair! Imagine if we actually find something.''
Before any of us could answer, Darren rushed away so fast to the other side of the forest until he was out sight in seconds. We chased after him for a long 30 minutes, until we heard a faint voice screaming the distance. We could not make out the words at first, but as we got closer, it was clear that it was Darren. He was screaming at the top of his lungs, '' GUYS IT IS AN EGG. I FOUND AN EGG.''
As we reached and saw him holding this egg, we were speechless, and words could not come out of our mouths. Fred, my other friend, was the son of a herpetologist, he immediately recognized the egg as a reptile egg, but it was bigger than that of any known reptile. We all paused and started to wonder for a while, until Fred turned red, his eyeballs popped out and he blared out, '' IT IS A DINOSAUR EGG, IT MUST BE...''
