Marine Corps Stories: Thoughtful Charity
The drone whizzed out of view. I heard the package drop as I stood inside the foyer in my blue and white pajamas. I stepped outside the door of my Newark, Delaware home. The package was no more than the size of the box in which a laptop is shipped.

The Package
The scene outside was chaotic. Through the curtain, Ian could see numerous police cars and heavy duty trucks parked. The blue and red light coming from the vehicles was illuminating his usually quiet neighborhood. The officers blared into their megaphones to remain in doors as they figure the situation out. Whatever the situation was, it didn't seem light by any stretch of the matter. All of his neighbors were doing what Ian was doing: looking through their windows and pointing at the commotion outside and talking amongst their household members. Ian was waiting for his wife to get back home from work, but it would have to be an even longer wait, as the whole area was cautioned taped off. No one was allowed to enter the neighborhood, and all traffic was being diverted to go away from it.

Box of Truth & Lies
The trailer park’s singular street lamp flickered yellow in the cold, misty night. A lean female figure, dressed in black sweats and a gray oversized hoodie, casually walked out in front of a trailer, a tousled mess of brown hair twisted into a bun. The gravel driveway crunched under her house shoes as she rolled the outdoor trash can back toward her single-wide mobile home.

Heart-Shaped Box. Top Story - December 2022.
Lilly was grateful to finally see the edge of her driveway after another long, horrendous day at the office, and an equally miserable drive through the traffic nightmare known as Highway 11. It had been a week from hell, and the only thing delaying her from the sweet elixir of her favourite Moscato, was parking the car and getting in the house.

Gilded Apples; Chapter 1
The car finally comes to a stop. I study the line of cars we've parked next to. I still wasn't quite sure what was going on. Quinlynn wanted me to go with him though. Maybe she was already here waiting to explain everything. She had mentioned a change coming.

The Mystery
Opheliana was sitting at her computer getting some work done. Zoom meetings, paperwork to file, and reports to submit. It was all so tedious and time-consuming. Her butt was getting tired of being in this chair and it was time to take her pain meds again. But, she supposed, it was a privilege to be allowed to work from home. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that. It helped that her boss was a good friend and approved her request to work remotely quickly. But what else could she have done?

A Broken Record
I was rearranging my shoes on a rack by the front door, when I heard something softly hit the floor behind it. I opened the door and found a package on my mat, containing no return address. Weird. I opened it and discovered a vinyl record inside that was sadly broken in two. It was packed well, so someone must have meant to send it this way…
