Gehenna - Ode to Persephone - Chapter 1 "A Provencal Holiday"
Chapter One A Provencal Holiday July was nearing its final curtain. The time for the season of tourists and sightseers to host its last few nights of bustling parties. Time for the starry-eyed crowds to reawaken to the real world and return to the humdrum of their normal lives – or at least most. For many this otherworldly magic had become a lifestyle, in many ways a religion; transforming this once ordinary place into a site of devout pilgrimage.

The Daughter of Atlas
I sat alone, taking in the sight of the dying day. Nothing but the rhythmic sound of the tide ebbing and flowing interrupted the tranquility of my Isle. Purples and golds stretched across the evening sky, as sculpted clouds lazily passed through it. On my lips a song began. An old one, from a time before the Greeks came to be. There in the distance, I could see a speck. A small ship loaded down with food and drink. A single man steered it. Odysseus. My dear Odysseus.

Love Lies Bleeding
The eastern sky explodes in a column of flame. I lift my hand to shield against the light. We all know this job has its hazards, evident by what we just glimpsed. I blink the after image from my retina and return my eyes to the honeycombed faceted holocube containing an image of Ella, my daughter. She’s dying and this job is my only hope of saving her.

The Fall
If you have arrived here please start at Chapter 1 The Fall - Chapter 6 Pōuriuri/Into The Night Aaron wakes suddenly to a noise. He sits up quietly, listening. There is someone at the iron gate of the cell. He hears the bolt being loosened. He waits in the darkness. No one enters. Quietly he approaches the gate. It is slightly ajar. He listens. Is this a trap? After a moment he opens the gate and sneaks into the corridor. There is no one there either. Trap or not, Aaron is going take his chances. He slides along the wall at speed, feeling his way to the stairs. He stops and listens. Then moves up the stairs with stealth and precision. Ducking past the the windows he gets to the door, opens it. People are mingling, drinking, keeping warm by fires. He looks up to the sky. It is a full moon and there is no way he could sneak past the people. So he pulls his hood over his head, takes a breath then walks calmly across the courtyard. People don’t take any notice of him. Or so he thinks.

One-Way Railway: Ch.2
All I gotta say is, that was the last time I take the subway after midnight. Nai Nai and I got into another fight though over my grades (what else is new) and I just had to let off some steam. She just doesn't get what it's like, being from "The Old World" and all; it's the twenty-first century now. I've got other stuff to worry about besides acing AP Calc! Or... I guess it's more accurate to say I had more important stuff to worry about. All that stuff seems way unimportant right now. Truth be told, I'd give anything to go back to our crummy apartment on the lower East Side and just tell her I'm sorry. I got a wicked temper, see, and...well, I said some things I didn't mean. I guess I'm like my mom that way. I wish I could remember more about her besides just that.

Til the End
I was just a tiny pup when she brought me home. Can't say that these years have been easy, but I certainly wouldn't change them for the world. She promised me from day one, 'We'll always be together. It's you and me, until the end.' And though we've had many challenges since then, she's never, ever broken her promise. So, I have no reason to believe that she will do so now.

Celestial Romance
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. So please, I beg you to stop screaming. You will awake the others. Meanwhile back on Earth at NASA Headquarters, Astronomer Jones comes in with his usual apple, carrot, cranberry, kale smoothie. “Morning people.” Another fascinating day of observing data pipelines and all the other bull sh## that happens in the boring life of an observational astronomer. And Yes! A promotion would be nice, he yells towards the captain’s office. Then the phone rings. He answers and a deep voice says, I do not know who pissed in your ice coffee latte this morning but keep the noise down. CLICK! The phone went dead before he could apologize to his supervisor who he nicknamed, Captain Cook. As his peer, a solar astronomer who he also nicknamed BFF, just stared at him with wide eyes and kept working. "If I were you I would not gesture my middle finger considering there are cameras all over NASA," said Wendy the front office manager for new astronomers. Jones slowly lowered his hand and started working immediately. Two hours in, his ex-wife calls reminding him of his son’s surprise birthday party in two weeks. The conversational exchange as usual did not go very well. As Jones reminded her that he is the only bread winner and she as always reminded him that it takes more than money to be a good parent--just before the phone goes dead again with a loud CLICK!

Space Jumper
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. But they also say you can’t breathe in space, yet here she is breathing just fine. So if she screamed right now, while being chased through galaxies, would anybody hear her? More importantly, who would hear her? She did know one person who she met quite frequently when exploring different galaxies, but that was always by chance. Who knows where he is now. He could be asleep on his home planet earth for all she knew. It's not like they had space phones to call each other, though that would be cool and she should definitely look into that. But even if he showed up, what could he do? She would be in the same position, just another person to look after, she didn't need that right now. She only needed herself, she was better on her own anyways.
