The Seraph’s Deceit
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Nathan was confused; no one had lived in the old Caretaker’s Cabin since the new buildings at Camp Hagios were constructed roughly 30 years ago. The weekly summer camp speakers sometimes stayed there if they didn’t bring any camping gear of their own, but they always seemed to get better sleep if they stayed somewhere else. He could only remember one camp speaker who chose to stay there last year, and the guy only lasted three nights. By the last night, the man was so haggard that he just pitched a tent outside in an effort to get some much-need rest. Either way, it was a Saturday night and the next speaker wasn’t due to arrive until Monday afternoon with the new batch of campers. So even if the next one was a brave soul, there was no reason for anyone to be in there.

The Jersey Obeah Woman
The Cabin in the Woods The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The front window was clearly visible from the discreet vantage point behind the maple tree. Illumination from the candlestick revealed the two lovers inside the cabin, with dewy eyes and faces pressed close together. It was enough to make one want to vomit.

The Witching Hour
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The candle had been lit by a young girl named Susie Connor along with her friends. Each of them, Susie, Sarah, Jo, and Melanie had turned 13 that summer and had just got ahold of something called a Ouija board. This board, they were told, could communicate with the dead and they couldn’t wait to try it. As each had become a teenager, they found themselves wanting to participate in more grown-up type activities rather than just playing with dolls and this seemed like the perfect thing to start with. Sarah’s older sister Celine had got the Ouija board for her 15th birthday and while it seemed like she and her friends had had their fun with it, at 17 now they were much too wrapped up in the world of dating to care about playing with it anymore. Sarah knew her sister would never miss it as she dug it out from underneath a pile of clothes at the back of the closet. She grinned from ear to ear as she plucked it out, knowing that she would have the perfect thing to bring to their annual summer slumber party. Since the girls all have birthdays in the summer, they always do one extra special slumber party towards the end of the summer as a way to celebrate them all. This year, they wanted it to be the best one yet, one that they would remember for many years to come.

Tag, You're It
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Then another, and then another. Soon, the cabin housed enough light that any passing stranger could peer inside, past rotten planks of wood barely clinging to the window frames, and see the details of every cob-web covered piece of furniture that was left.

Whispers on the Wind
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Turning her horse back towards the cabin with a sharp, “Woah!” Josie wiped the back of her sleeve across her forehead, mopping away the sweat that was trickling down into her eyes, blurring her vision. She could feel the path of grime it left behind, and knew it would cool into a crusty stain across her forehead, a reminder of the last bit of fencing she had wrestled back into place as the sun sank behind the trees. Peering through the thick trees, she leaned hard forward, saddle leather creaking against the strain, saddlehorn jabbing mercilessly into her ribs as she struggled to get a better view of the old broken down cabin. Surely she had imagined a candle in the broken out old window… a last trick of the sweat and setting sun. But just as she shook her head and began to straighten, she caught sight of it again. Sure enough, a candle sat on a stand just inside the window… and it was lit.
