TOMB OF HAKA
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley. There weren’t always wars between mankind. But there has always been Izura, a mischievous spirit that could not resist the temptation of stealing from the gods.” Kuta traced his finger-tips over the mountainous landscape that was carved into the long wooden table beneath his hand. His fragile fingers travelled softly over the mountain peaks until they reached the gods’ tombs at the centre.

Blood on the Snow
There weren't always dragons in the Valley, but war came and brought them with it. Black armoured soldiers with featureless helmets came riding them as weapons of war, silver and blue soldiers came leading them as beasts of burden, red soldiers in leather armor brought the dragonlings on harnessess as scouting beasts... and they died. Great dragons fell from the sky and died in pained heaps on the ground, small dragonlings were trampled underfoot by their larger siblings.

The FrostWing Chronicles
There weren’t always dragons in the valley, before the great battle of SpireRock. Novotora was a peaceful world with vast creatures from across the cosmos. The only denizens of the world were mortal, appointed by their gods to create the first Ark world. Several worlds across the universe chosen by the gods themselves stood with the mysterious Skyguard Empire. SpireRock was a tall black spike in the center of the Valley and served as a node of Teleportation magic across all chosen worlds under the Divine council. With the Divine Council focused on the recent Demon attacks, Novotora was no longer under their watch, and the Dragons of Skyguard arrived in the world North of SpireRock Valley. Little to the mortal's knowledge, the arrival of the Dragons merely brought forth a war for survival.

Time of Omens
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Tales were told that once, long before the Great War, a dragon being spotted anywhere in the Realm wasn’t even news. Old Wizards would sometimes claim that dragons were nomadic creatures, coming and going with the tides, but nobody paid credence to that anymore. As far as Alice knew, no dragons had been seen in the Realm for at least three generations and that meant there were never any around. Alice was almost thirteen years old, she was much smarter than to trust in ramblings passed down from some long-dead people nobody remembered. And yet what she was seeing now with her own eyes was unmistakably a dragon.

Grace Under Dragonfire
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. The first sign that Kira noticed was when the smoking remains of a cow dropped onto her uncle Mitch, followed by a terrifying roar. They’d been walking back home after a long day’s work in the city, through the Valley. ‘Work’ would be the technical term for what the pair did, she was sure of it. Uncle Mitch had begged for coin while nimble young Kira stole from the throng that always crowded the streets of the city, day or night. They’d made enough that day that Mitch got himself good and drunk as they ate their customary meal at what at first appearances was a fairly shabby tavern, but once the odour of the food hit all thought went out of Kira’s mind of anything other than eating.

The Dragon Exam. Runner-Up in The Fantasy Prologue.
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. The door to the waiting room squeaks open, and the guard’s hand tightens on my shoulder as the court secretary beckons us. I swallow around a cotton ball that’s been lodged in my throat since I first opened Renoiri’s Treatise on Time and Space Magic.

Prilfazar's Fate
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Rather, there weren’t always valleys in the dragon. Our land is as cruel a beast as any average dragon... just how in its valleys, where dark dark pasts creep around. Ones that thrash around in the night like hungry bats, that hide under overturned stones, right in plain sight. A past that gauges deep cuts into the present and into the future, widening its gushing valleys.
