Adventure
The Valley of Dragons and Angels
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. In the old world the skies were clear, and there were fleets of cars rolling along the gray roads, so many they got in each other's way. Even after all that has happened, I have trouble believing that those hunks of rusted metal once propelled themselves across the valley and beyond, propelled by captive explosions (as though anything but a dragon could capture an explosion). And people, there were so many people. Though not every car was controlled by a person (some controlled themselves) each building, each rubble pile that was once a building, was filled, crammed to the rafters with people. I can't imagine how many people that must have been, more than a thousand at least. I cannot count that high, and I have never seen more than 30 people in the same place at the same time, but my grandmother swore it was true.

Deceitful
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. In fact, almost everyone believed they went extinct 20 years ago, along with the entire pyromancer population. Everyone except me and my best friend, who shouldn’t exist, Darius. Wow, that sounded pretty harsh. I think introductions are necessary in order to give you a better understanding of what I meant by that.

The Dragon Wars
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. The first time they came, it was like a storm of fire and brimstone. They appeared as mere birds in the distant sky, growing larger and deadlier with each wingbeat. It was only when they were upon us that the townspeople realized their fate. They screamed, ran for cover, shielded their loved ones…but to no avail. The flames consumed them all like the fiery wrath of God.

The Peasant Queen
"There weren't always dragons in the valley. Once there was no war and no death. Once the inhabitants lived in harmony with the natural order, giving more than they took, and taking only what they needed. They lived under the watchful eye of Mount Kokomo, the smoking giant that rose skyward at the northern end of the valley, whose ashes gave them fertile lands that never failed to bare, fruit-heavy orchards, cedar forests so thick that the air was inundated with the sweet scent of sap, and the healing water from springs high in the mountain. Despite their richness of resources, the people of the valley lived in poverty under the rule of their king's greed. Royal soldiers came to the valley and collected their goods as tax, leaving them with little to live on. The summer that Kokomo mountain heaved its last breath marked the arrival of the first dragon- goddess, Nathifa."

Lunar Flame
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. They used to have a home in Thalessia, in the rich rugged mountains neighboring the crop-filled coastal farmland of Tamenessa. The dragons liked the farms, you see. They would help the towns folk plough their fields, herd their sheep, and even heat their ovens to bake food after harvest. The sea breeze would carry the smell of freshly baked bread and aromatic spiced stews into the mountains as the dragons woke their young from their afternoon naps.

Project DRAGN
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. What made it worse for Gideon, though, was that he had put them there. He brushed his hand over the fingers of an enormous fern, its waxy green skin echoing the last remnants of afternoon light that managed to weave their way through the dense forest canopy above. Only a few months ago, the ferns had crumbled to dry powder at the same touch. They had also been about seven times smaller. Now they towered over him along with the rest of the plant life, like underbrush for a giant.

Dragon Vale
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley… Eleanor mused gazing from her window. Once known as Blue Valley for the hue the grass took from the sky above, now lay hundreds or thousands of dragons. Eleanor’s gray eyes could see great mounds of scaled flesh heaving in deep sleep. Far in the distance a battle for dominance seemed even matched. Fire plumed and screeching roars echoed off the mountainsides that cupped the Valley.
