Monday 12th August, Story #225/366

By L.C. SchäferPublished about a year ago 3 min read

I fall in love with her, my Rhiannon. She, beautiful. Even lovelier, she not know! Her skin so smooth, little white teeth digging worry into her lip. Always counting the calorie. Always looking for another way to care. And when she forgot to worry, her smile so wide, so happy. Contagieuse! Oh, I was so dizzy in love.

After six months, I want her to meet family. Mother is my only family. Rhiannon and I, we make the trip to France. We go to my hometown. I present her to Mother. I was excited. This is good, yes? This is right!

But it begins to go wrong, do you see? My mother speaks no English. She frowns, because Rhi did not learn good French before the trip. Mother is old-fashion. She think wife should be good in house. Cook, keep neat, yes? My Rhi, she burn water and drops socks! But I love her, do you see?

I have surprise for my darling. I take her to Paris, I bend my knees, I say, Marry me. Be wife. She sparkles, says yes. We make love. Passionnément. Wonderful. I am the happiest man.

We return to England. It begins to go wrong. She lie. She say, "I have class, I cook. I learn." Lie! She still burn water!

She lock phone. Shut laptop. Sneaky. I find no other man. But her phone, it still lock. Her laptop, a password.

I think, true love, it strong. Durable. So what's this? No trust. The green monster, it eats away.

Now am I annoyed. Noticing the little thing, the désagréments. Her monkey laugh, her bad food. I remember my mother not liking her. Her dancing, so bad, not elegant like real lady.

I think, leave. But wedding, all planned. The evidence? None.

I think, leave, and I am sad. I love her. Anger, yes. Suspicion. Jealousy. But love, still.

So I tell. She likes my French dans la chambre, you know? I tell her the things she has that annoy, but in the soft, sexy French she likes. She loves it! I feel how she love it. I feel better.

Perhaps a mistress. Then, are we even. The same. Yes.

Please do me a favour: Leave a comment and let me know whether you read Ramper Pour Toujours first or not! I'm interested how it lands differently. I love it when people leave comments, because it makes it easier to reciprocate the read.

A Year of Stories: I'm writing a story every day this year. This one continues my 225 day streak since 1st January.

Please consider lending your support to the other creators on this madcap "a story every day" adventure. They're putting out excellent content every day!

The story behind the story: I wanted to re-do Ramper Pour Toujours, but from the perspective of the man.

Oo la la! I will have to read its accompanying piece now. Funny how we both did the Frenchies on the same day, if that doesn't sound too suggestive.

I read this one first, not realizing that it even had a companion piece. To me it stands alone, but now I'm eager to read the prequel. And p.s. it really is possible to burn water. This, I know.

  • Hahahahahahahah I love that you gave us his POV too!

I read Ramper Pour Toujours first. The differences in perspectives is interesting and entertaining as well as evidence of real challenges to their budding relationship in the not too distant future. Especially since he is a jealous ass.

The writing of the accent was masterfully done, L.C.! Really brought this voice driven piece to life!

  • NOOOO haha, two wrongs never make a right! What's worse is that the perceived wrong isn't even what is happening! Truly an example of how Perception can become Reality. Well done, LC!

In writing fiction, it helps me to write from the male perspective, even though it probably isn't truly what a man would say! 😉😂It still feels more fiction than coming from me.😉

I take back everything I ever said about Jerry Lewis.

Seems a little suspicious, non? Off to check out the other one.

Loved the French accent oozing from this, LC! So funny but can easily turn dark, too.

I read that in a Quebecois accent! It reminded me of all the lovers I had in Quebec!
