When they came for me, I had visions of the future. Me, handcuffed, caged, life ruined. That is, more than it was already. Shamed. Like I'd done the biggest poop on the deepest, creamiest carpet. Oh boy, I was in so much trouble!

Bad enough when they arrested me for taking that female in the park. Some bone deep instinct told me that running naked past a school could be worse. At drop-off time. Kiddies everywhere, mothers clapping hands over innocent little eyes.

It's so much easier on four legs. You never have to worry about stuff like that.

I knew, if I used my one phone call to ring her I'd be right back where I started, but what choice did I have? I have no idea how she got me out. I heard snippets (I have very good hearing these days, even on two legs). "Very unwell", they said. Something about an "episode". Try being told you're getting your balls lopped of, Sergeant Stinky-Pits, I thought. You'd have an "episode" as well.

She steered me out of there with her hand on my arm, as firmly as if we were competing for Best in Show. Her painted red lips smiled and fawned over the policemen, all the while growling softly at me,

"You're a human, Jerry. Bloody well act like it, at least until we get home."

I concentrated very hard on walking to thecarthecarwe'regoingforadrive! I got in the passenger side calmly as if I was a real, normal, human person. She gripped the steering wheel tight all the way home.

"I get it," she said, "You knew what was going to happen and you freaked out. Fine. We can find another way to teach you a lesson."

She did it to me before we got out of the car, and she had the collar and lead on me before I could blink. She marched me in, hand on my collar, practically choking me.

"Thank you," she said, in that breathy voice she used to use for me. "Thank you for waiting. I just had to go and collect him, I've been worried sick."

There was a Man in my house. I saw grey.

This is a shocking turn of events for Jerry, poor thing. This could turn into a novella of sorts. Great tale, LC!
