Relapse

A Short Story

By Lysey-LouPublished 4 years ago 2 min read

He takes her hand, pulls her close, whispers softly. She blushes, but lets his firm hands run over her body. Later she tells him that she loves him, he smiles, kisses her gently on the forehead and tells her he has to leave.

Her heart flutters nonstop every time she thinks about him. She has never given so much of herself to a man before. Heart, body, soul, all on the line. She thinks he is so sweet, but her friends tell her to be careful.

After weeks of dating he becomes distant. She can't remember doing anything wrong. He must just be busy. They spend less time together and he calls less often.Eventually, she stops trying to reach out to him. The endless ring of the phone is haunting. He never picks up, he never says hello.

Maybe what they once shared has finally come to an end? Her tears run until the pain starts to numb. Her head tells her to move on.

Hey

She receives a text one night and can't help but respond eagerly. His lengthy pauses between short replies are discouraging, but she wants answers. She has to know where she went wrong.

Maybe we should get together for dinner sometime?

He doesn't respond, at least not for a week or so. The chime of her phone awakes her late at night.

Heyt besutifgul

She knows she should be mad that it took so long for him to contact her, but she doesn't want to waste an opportunity to talk to him.

I close by. Im gonna com overt

She wants to resist, but soon he is knocking at her door. She opens it trying to appear casual, but her heart is racing. He invites himself in, leaving an odour of beer behind him. He ushers her over to the bed and smothers her mouth with his.

She pushes him off of her, but the battle is short lived. He whispers how he loves her and she is all he can think about. His words soften her. Her head says no, her heart says yes, her body gives in.

Afterwards, she clutches his hand, afraid to let go, afraid to lose him. She turns to find him already passed out. This is what she wanted wasn't it, to be with him? His phone vibrates on the table loudly. She shakes him gently and hands him his phone.

"I'll call em back. Just let me sleep for a bit, Jen." He rolls over and falls back asleep.

Erin curls up in a ball and pulls the covers up to her chin.
