It wasn't quite the day I expected....though it rarely is. Started off as a quiet stroll through the orchard which I love to do. Watching the trees, plants and insects interact always brings me peace.
As I was passing the pear tree this thought ran though my mind. I wonder how she is? I thought it extremely strange as I have been single for many years. Since my divorce I found solitude has left much of the drama my life had in the past.
I continued on to the apple tree and enjoyed the aroma that was produced. I thought nothing is any sweeter than this. Yet again a strange thought crossed my mind. Except for her. The strangest thing was that this dialog was not as my normal dialog. It sounded much more peaceful than my own.
By this point a bit of anxiety began to creep in. A feeling I knew well from my past. Only this time it did not seem to be based if fear but from excitement. Although I'm not a stage performer I would assume it to be as such. Such as a musician playing in front of the biggest crowed they have ever performed in front of.
As I passed by a group of butterflies I kind of chuckled cause it reminded me of my stomach. On to the peach tree I thought and immediately afterwards the strange thought came back. There she is. "Really!?" I said out loud in aggravation! Am I losing it on such a peaceful day!
That's when I saw her. She was emerging from the wood line. Long flowing hair as gold as the sun. Her beautiful curvy body reminded me of one of the pears from the pear tree earlier. Her long flowing flowery dress danced in the wind like the group of butterflies I had just seen by the apple tree.
I thought how in the hell is this happening. Have I now elevated to the point of hallucinating!? And if not...this is still private property. Not exactly the kind of attitude you should have after a beautiful woman just walks up out of nowhere I might add.
"Mam....can I help you with something?" with awe in my voice. By this point I do believe I have seen the most beautiful eyes I have every seen. "I hope so." she said with an almost equal awe struck look. It was the most beautiful voice I do believe I've ever herd!
"I was driving on the highway and my car just shut down. It's a brand new BMW and never had a problem before...it's like someone hit a switch and turned it off. I know it's not because of payment because it's paid off." "Well ain't that a peach." I said as I pointed at one on the tree.
We laughed at my icebreaking joke and introduced ourselves. "I'm Joshua." "I'm Elizabeth." "So what brought you off the beaten path?" I asked as I offered her a peach while taking a bite of mine.
"The strangest thing actually, as I was trying to call a tow truck my phone died....it had a full battery. But that's not the strangest thing, I had this thought pop in my mind." "What was it!" I said with excitement...also rudely cutting her off like a child. "Well....it didn't sound like my normal thoughts....it was quite peaceful and reassuring. It said....walk though the woods....you'll find him. As I decided to follow the request I thought maybe that my next stop should be the psych ward!" We laughed and she went on to say. "As I came to a clearing that same thought came back except this time it was....there he is."
At that moment I knew. I knew that my life had just changed forever. Something I had seemingly gave up on just magically appeared. This is one of those once in a blue moon moments....but is it?
As we continued to talk and walk through the orchard back to my house. I knew this was the love of my life. I knew that just when you believe all hope is lost in a situation....that's when it happens. That's when a dream comes true. Even if it's only once in a blue moon.
