Garbage Can Blues
Instructions Included Challenge

THIS IS YOUR LOCAL RECYCLING GARBAGE MAN
It has come to my attention that we have a severe problem, with the recycling garbage customers. Let me review the terms of agreement, and the rules of engagement to be able to have a recycle Garbage Can.
First let me review the definition of recycling. It means to recycle the earth's resources, so we don't run out of the precious things that make this earth a bountiful and beautiful place.
Secondly, it is a privilege, and not a right to even to be able to recycle. Residents should not take it for granted, that you automatically have the right to recycle.
I am putting you on notice, that your right to recycle could be taken away at any given moment. If you do not obey the rules, your right to contribute to the health of the planet, may be taken away, plain and simple.
Let's get right to it, and review the rules. You signed up to be a customer and you were sent a copy of the rules and regulations, please refer to it. In case you lost it, I will briefly go throught the laws again.
1. No pesticides, no chemicals of any kind, you know the drill, nothing hazardous or posioning. This is just common sense, and apparently we have some customers, that are breaking this common sense rule.
Yesterday, we found an empty pesticide plastic bottle in one of our recycle cans. This isn't allowed in any shape, fashion or form, even if it is rinsed out. It still may have some residue in it, and for recycling purposes, that is a "NO-No".
From a recycling point of view, pesticide in any form, happens to be prohibited and something that shouldn't be done under any circumstances. There are more natural things you can do to keep pests away from your garden, but that is not my job, to review them with you.
2. No needles, no medications of any type, no empty medication bottles.
This week my people found a partially full prescription bottle in one of our cans. This is absoutlely prohibited. You should contact your pharmacy to see where you dispose of this medication, as even if you were to have put it in the regular trash can, it could seep into the ground and under ground streams from the landfills. That I might add, I find totally irresponsible.
3. No Food- We are not the regular trash people, and we don't except food items of any kind. Perhaps you should consider getting a garbage disposal.
4. We accept plastic containers such as milk containers - As long as they have the recycling emblem on them, we are happy to recycle them for you, as long as you do the following.

a, Rinse all containers out with soapy water, and rinse, and dry before putting them in the recycle can.
b. Remove the lids of your milk containers please and throw them in the trash.
c. Cereal boxes, newspapers, phone box, junk mail, and paperback books are all okay, as long as they are not soiled, and are clean.
Rule of thumb, keep paper dry, rinse out plastic containers, and don't put recyclables in plastic bags.
Another rule of thumb, is if you wouldn't touch it with your hands, then we won't touch it with ours.
*************************ONLY RECYCLE CLEAN THINGS************* REMEMBER RECYCLING IS A PRIVILEGE, -- IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE RULES, WE WILL BE OVER TO PICK UP YOUR CAN, AND YOU ARE EXPECTED TO PAY YOUR BILL ANYWAY!!!
