Jolene and Scarlett had a unique friendship, they flirted with each other as they both found it fun and a way to pass the time. One day they decided to have a sleepover, and all was going well, they were having fun, laughing, flirting some, just having a grand old time. But then all of a sudden Jolene became very serious after a bit of flirting and decided to ask a question that would shake them and their friendship in more ways then either of them imagined.

“Hey so when you’re flirting with me, are you joking, it’s starting to get hard to tell…?” Jolene asked innocently, though Scarlett could spot the look in her eyes hinting at the fact that she was dead serious.

The thing was, Scarlett being a young bisexual teenager, had a crush on her bestest of friends, she didn’t want to have a crush on Jolene and ruin their friendship but it just happened. Her having a crush on Jolene meant that when they were flirting Scarlett was joking until the extent that Jolene took it a bit further and started to take it more into the real world, making seem as though she actually wasn’t joking.

This being the case, Scarlett was hesitant to answer as she didn’t want to potentially mess up such a valuable friendship, “…uhmmm, wait one second I think I hear my brother,” Scarlett replied, obviously trying to change the topic and avoid an uncomfortable conversation.

Jolene persisted though insisting that no matter what she said that they would be fine and that she wouldn’t care, to just tell her the truth. And after a good bit of avoiding and trying to change the topic, Scarlett eventually decided to answer as she could clearly see that avoiding the topic was causing Jolene stress and anxiety and Scarlett hating seeing her friend, and crush, like that, she hated seeing anyone distressed, especially if it was of her own doing.

Scarlett deciding to tell the truth just in case that little chance that Jolene liked her back in the same way was actually real replied with, “Are you sure you won’t be upset…” as Jolene nods she continues, “I’m half joking, I mean if you want me to be I am, but if you’re being serious and want me to be as well then I’m being ser-”

Jolene immediately cut her off, “stop with this ‘I’m joking if you are’ bullshit, just tell me how YOU feel…”

Scarlett was clearly upset at being shut down immediately when all she was doing was telling the truth (at least mostly) but Jolene didn’t seem to notice, “…b-b-but I’m just telling you the truth… how I feel”

Jolene scoffed and looked away, sort of ignoring Scarlett but not fully as when Scarlett asked if she was mad at her and repeatedly said sorry. Jolene promised she wasn’t upset but continued to look at her phone and slightly ignore Scarlett. This caused Scarlett’s anxiety to continue to mount, already being sky high from this uncomfortable and nerve-racking situation that Jolene had put her in, causing her to start to feel the oncoming's of an anxiety attack.

Jolene then noticed as Scarlett’s breathing started to become uneven as tears formed in her eyes, concerned she asked, “What’s wrong…? Hey, it’s ok I promise”

Scarlett was too distracted though by hey continuously rising anxiety and guily, attempting to stop it by trying to find her pulse and count it, one of her ways of relieving her anxiety and speeding heart, but no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t get rid of the thoughts in her head, ‘I f*cked up… I ruined this friendship… things will never be the same… despite what she says she definitely sees me differently… I should’ve kept my mouth closed… I can’t believe I messed up this badly already…’ and on and on.

Not being able to control her thoughts and wanting to hopefully stop Jolene from panicking, as she could clearly see Jolene starting to panic, not knowing what to do Scarlett replied with, “I just can’t really breath… I think I’m having an anxiety attack”

Jolene clearly didn’t know what to do though, which to Scarlett she didn’t have to do anything but leave her alone and maybe make sure she took deep breathes, but Jolene started to panic a bit and Scarlett could see it in her eyes, which didn’t at all help Scarlett's anxiety.

Eventually she calmed down and a bit later Jolene told her the truth, that she liked her too. And that’s where the fun started, they would lie to their parents that they’re just friends so that they could have sleepovers and cuddle. Who knew that this tense situation would lead to something so beautiful.
