Feline In A Dream

For Raymond G. Taylor's Art Inspires Challenge

Introduction

This is for this challenge put together by Raymond G. Taylor that you can read about here, and I am glad it has given me a reason not to write a poem, as poetry makes me feel I am being lazy although I suppose this may turn out to be a prose poem.

The music is "Is It A Dream?" by Classix Nouveaux

Feline In A Dream

Am I awake or am I dreaming I really don't know. I am naked on a bed but everything around me is melting into a metaphysical swirl, a whirlpool of cloud and I am at the centre on an eiderdown, reflecting sleep warmth.

I watch a cat, but he does not see me and he is intent on a bird that has landed from the whirling air, ruffling its feathers in a silent manner.

Will the cat pounce? I am not sure, should I stroke it? Maybe not.

We have made this tableau, me a cat and a bird, a living trinity, waiting for something to happen.

Nothing moves.

We are part of a painting and the only way out is if I wake, the cat pounces, or the bird flies off.

So we wait.

And wait

And wait

As others observe this dreamlike work of art.

So interesting what everyone sees. This was really fascinating. Good luck with it.

  • All that waiting seems very tiring. Loved your story!

I love how you capture the sense of movement in the artwork and its stasis. Really well done!

Lovely - well done. It is such a good picture, but I've failed to find words for this challenge so far.

Wonderful, evocative and dream-like interpretation of this artwork. And a musical accompaniment too, not to mention the Kendo Kiai!. Fantastic entry and thanks for joining in.

This was wonderful, Mike, eternal waiting in a painting.
