Scene Description: A 10-year-old African-American girl with adorable, uneven, twin, ebony, afro-puffs happily residing atop her chocolate noggin, sings an original gospel song at a memorial service for a drive-by shooting victim.

Emerie's Monologue:

"Hi. My name is Emerie Thompson. I am from Miss Hope's fourth grade class at Sommerville Elementary school, and I'd like to sing this song that my granny wrote for my classmate Chuckie Rodriguez's family.”

“I'm sorry that Chuckie had to leave us so soon. He was a good friend to me. I will really miss our spitball fights and grape licorice dance parties!”

“Gun violence really, really sucks soggy lemons, but my granny told me to tell everyone that better days are ahead!”

Emerie's Song: (The Heart Mender)

In a beautiful soprano tone Emerie audaciously belts out:

"Remember it takes time to heal…🎵

With The Almighty’s loving hand upon your broken heart you most certainly will…🎵

Because HE is :

A Comforter🎵

A Benevolent Shepherd🎵

A Waymaker🎵

A Deliverer🎵

A Heart Mender🎵

A Cloud Lifter🎵

A Life Giver🎵

A Peace Provider🎵

A Wise Counselor🎵

And A Loving Father 🎵

For HE has the power to give life to the lifeless…

Sweet sleep to the sleepless…

And eternal hope to the hopeless…

For HIS loving hands make broken hearts new…

Because HE truly loves & cares for you…

Remember that HE died for us all…

So that we would have somewhere soft to fall…

Because HE is:

A Comforter🎵

A Benevolent Shepherd🎵

A Waymaker🎵

A Deliverer🎵

A Heart Mender🎵

A Cloud Lifter🎵

A Life Giver🎵

A Peace Provider🎵

A Wise Counselor 🎵

&

A Loving Father...”🎵

Closing Scene Description:

Emerie gracefully finishes her performance, curtsies clumsily, then quickly skips off-stage and then runs into her proud grandmother's awaiting arms.
