All I herd was evolve. That was the last thing I remember in my living room as the green light engulfed me. But I definitely was no longer there. As I looked around things seemed oddly familiar...but not....if that even makes sense.
I rose from the floor and headed for what seemed to be the kitchen. As I looked for a glass for some water to quench my thirst I herd.... that laugh.... one I never will forget as long as I live! Sounded the same as when I first herd it in school many, many years ago! But how could this be! I haven't seen her since that day at the creek. The day I felt I had to let her go, not for my well-being but for hers. Oh how I longed to hear that laugh since!
"Mary!?" I said in awe. "Who else would it be silly?" she replied. "How did I get here!?" "I would think you drove from the office....unless you used teleportation." she said in a sly voice. I thought to myself....if only she knew! "Are you ok?" "I'm not not sure....is this really happening?" I replied. "You're starting to scare me Josh let's sit in the living room and I'll pour you a drink." I thought to myself I might aught to take her advice.
I sat there awe struck when she returned with a mixed drink for me. I said "I haven't drank alcohol in eight years and I don't think its going to help in this situation!" "Now I know something's wrong, are you having a stroke! And what do you mean by this situation? It's just like everyday for the past twenty years!" "Mary, I haven't seen you in twenty years! I live in a one-room apartment. How in the hell did I get here!?" She said, "I'm calling an ambulance!"
"Wait, I feel fine besides my thirst. I truly haven't seen you since our early twenties!" "Well I've seen you everyday since our early twenties when you proposed! It was the most romantic, beautiful day of my life Joshua don't you remember!? That day at the creek when you sang my favorite song to me then got on one knee and proposed! You didn't have a ring so you tied a daisy around my wrist! That's it I'm calling the doctor!"
As soon as she got that out of her mouth the green light blinded me. And there I was back in my lazy boy in my one-room apartment. I thought well...that was an interesting psychosis. I bet if I was to tell anyone I'd certainly be locked up! Did I jump timelines like in a time travel movie? Is there a gas leak in the apartment building? Were the pickled eggs in the back of the refrigerator really that old?
I could not shake how real it felt. Was it a dream...it couldn't have been... it felt so real! As I sat there still trying to make sense of it all my phone rang. I thought uh oh.....is this part two of my slip from reality? If so there was no green light this time. And strangely enough it did have a warm loving feel to it.
Green light or not I did not recognize the number and I usually don't answer those, but something told me to answer. As I reluctantly reached down to answer the phone I kind of thought the green accept button was pretty ironic. I swiped it anyways and nervously in a timid voice said "Hello?" only to be answered by.....that laugh.
