The garden was a mess. Summer's blossom had diluted from fresh to fading and the lemming leaves were falling, spiralling to lie curling on the ground.

It was time to hack back.

One shrub was a later bloomer; a single red flower, standing sentinel at the end of a branch.

"Leave the shrub by the bird feeders!" she shouted after him.

To him, it was overgrown, hitting, not brushing his face as he went to the shed.

*

He was pleased with the pile of wilting, brown limbs. A small flourish of red was visible.

"What d'ya think?"

She daren't say.

Another Drabble today, what John Cox would call one of my "slices of life".

Typical... lol Some people just can't handle a little disorder. Also makes me contemplate the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"... 😅 Great work Rach!!

I think this one should be named My Husband is an Ass. Definitely a slice of life. 🤔Definitely malus abominous. Definitely cannot argue with it. Where are the shears, dear?

I feel like this has an incredible underlying meaning... possibly several.

Ha! I loved this one. It reminds me of my parents. My mum freaks out when she sees my dad disappearing into the garden to 'trim things back'! Great stuff.

This has such a profound, hidden meaning, it could be allegorical in nature. I'm wondering if his wife was also "blooming" of late in ways he didn't recognize, and he desired to stifle or prohibit her growth. This little drabble reminded me of a modernistic period's bit of writing, and for some reason, my mind goes to Virginia Woolf. Even if I'm wrong, I loved this story so much.

I find that when a member of the opposite sex asks, "What do you think," you're better off not to say. It won't be right.

Another day another drabble from the Queen of Drabbling, but not dribbling (see, got it right this time) slice of life - I call them vignettes cos I'm a pretentious windbag lol! :) Well done and he's a bad yin for not listening to her!No damn respect.

We’ve all been there in some way! Hahah. Nice Drabble! I checked out the story idea link you sent the other day. Interesting. Some didn’t do it for me, but might be easier to print and highlight as it’s quite long. Ta. If I said something similar on your other posts I’m losing it. Have a great day!!

  • I don't get it 😅 Did he get rid of it?

The one red flower amongst the brown reminds me of Schindler's List message. So powerful. Loved it
