Turning it in gauntleted hands, he felt the weight of all creation carried by its bloodstained hilt.
Excalibur.
Outside, the crows sang Arthur’s Lament.
Gently cleaning the blood away, he remembered his scabbard hung empty, his own blade shattered. No gems adorned its pommel, no gold flaked its crossguard, yet with it he could wield the wealth and power of God himself.
All the desires buried within his heart… unleashed. Even Eve, purest of creation, bit into temptation.
The blade now cleansed, Lancelot met his own reflection gleaming within the steel. A tremor ran through his heart, his breath catching in his throat. When had his gaze grown so heavy?
He placed the sword upon the Round Table, and departed.

Haha. Love that we get to enjoy the spoils of your practice.
What a great final piece. It felt like I read an entire novella in this brief story. You filled it with so much and if you know the story, the ending makes sense and packs a punch.
Oh, very good. Delivered so much story and character development in so few words! Hope work on the main WIP is going well! Happy New Year!

Great writing, and good luck with the work in progress! I need to get started on one of those in 2025.
You have breathed new life into an ancient theme; what better way to welcome a new year?
What a great drabble! Writing drabble is not easy and you did it very well.
