Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

See the round cushion that takes pride of place upon my bed?

That's more than a tiny pillow to lay my head. It's my 'catch all' for any tears I shed when I break.

It holds a special place within my heart, in honour of my baby girl, who graced our world for a few short minutes, before growing her angel wings.

Made from her blanket, the last earthly item to touch her bare skin, before she quietly passed into eternal sleep.

Now I lay upon her pillow when the grief overwhelms and she catches my tears as they fall.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
