She slowly opens her eyes as she feels the morning sun upon her face and her heart drops in dread. She didn’t want today to arrive but it did!

Tears spring to her eyes and travel down her face. She lays sobbing hysterically in her bed. Oh, why couldn’t she have just slept this day away.

By the side of her bed her phone pings with a new text message. She gingerly reaches out, picks it up and reads the message. A smile blooms upon her face.

Today’s forecast has suddenly changed to joy and happiness and her heart soars.

I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘forecast'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
