Argubate
Verb: To engage in the act of argubation: Arguing purely for the heightened pleasure of arguing, not for a resolution.
Jenny closes her eyes and takes a steadying breath. It’s over now. Another meeting that should have been an email. Pointless. There are twenty other things she could be doing.
Peter seems to enjoy them though. Enough to schedule them every day. Probably because they offer another chance for him to throw his position around. He must know how it makes him look, he simply doesn’t care.
Jenny can’t imagine another reason for today’s ‘meeting’, if you could call it that. More like a ‘rub your nose in shit’ session. The whole office has known the change was coming. Peter had called the first meeting last month and mowed over all the same objections.
Now it was here: No more hour long lunches. From now on, they’d all have to take care of eating and any other personal agendas in 30 minutes or less. Complete and total bullshit.
Of course, Peter has no plausible reason to make this change. He never needs one. There are plenty of reasons not to, as voiced by virtually every other employee, including Jenny herself, but Peter doesn’t let that stop him.
He just gives that condescending smile of his and reiterates that other companies are doing it, why not us? Every new objection makes his smile deepen. It’s like he’s getting off on the argument, only he’s not really arguing.
Jenny shakes her head and sits down to write an email. She’s got to find another job soon.
