Androgynous

For The The A-Z of Unusual Words (Part A) Challenge By Penny Fuller

By Mike Singleton 💜 Mikeydred Published about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Introduction

Androgynous /anˈdrɒdʒɪnəs/ adjective

partly male and partly female in appearance; of indeterminate sex.

"a stunningly androgynous dancer"

having the physical characteristics of both sexes.

This is for Penny Fuller's Challenge which you can read about below.

Angie and David, Woman and Man or Man and Woman

The word always brings David and Angie Bowie to mind, who sometimes could pass for each other. It reminds me that we are all human beings regardless of gender or gender fluidity.

Androgynous

The word makes me think of beauty and eroticism. It can be male, female or sexless, but still mysterious and interesting. An Androgyne will make you wonder and think.

Check the main image and the Angie and David pictures, these are folk from the Fae and full of mystery and magic.

I will finish this with a Senryū (川柳)

I learned a few new things today. I didn't realize how much the two look alike. Also the concept of a senryu is new for me. thanks to your inspiration I might play around with the form.

This is fabulous. It’s a perfect choice with all your pieces about music.

Splendid reflection, and I loved the Senryū, too. I always admired the way Bowie embraced his androgynous side. You are correct: it all comes down to the fact that we are all humans despite gender and gender fluidity. I wish there was more tolerance and kindness for just such a perspective.

  • Oh I didn't know the meaning of that so I learned something new today. Loved your Senryu!

Good work for a confusing term as well as appearances they make. It takes all kinds to make a world.
