The colour of auburn licks the trees, paints the sky, heats the skin, singes the hair and fur, and blows the black wind. The man gazed out the window, holding a young, cherished one. The young child blinked slowly, breathing heavily. Both were sweating. The sound of cries echoed through the streets. The smell of burning flesh rose to the sky, tickling their senses as it did. The deer did not survive.

The man, Kal, pointed to the monster in the woods. His veins pulsed red from his heart. Fire floating at his fingertips. It zoomed, exploded, shattered. "We're alive..."
