To Chow or Not to Chow

My Review of Keto Chow

Do you like meal replacement shakes? Well I do. I have tried many brands over the years including Slim-Fast, Shakeology, 310, and even generic ready to drink shakes from Walmart. I like them because they are easy and usually taste pretty good to me.

I don’t typically feel hungry in the morning. So if I start my day with a meal replacement shake, it’s filling enough and it kind of sets the tone for me. All day long I remember I had that shake ( which is never what I would call cheap regardless of the brand) and I don’t want to “waste” it.

Well, recently I have made the switch to a Keto diet. This is the diet where you track your macros (fat, protein, and carbs) keeping them in certain proportions. When you have the right proportions of each thing, it turns your body into a fat burning machine.

The thing about Keto is, you have to give up some of your favorite things. Sure you can eat green veggies and a very limited amount of some fruits like berries. You can eat cheeses and nuts and bacon and eggs.....and hamburgers too. But you have to give up bread and pasta and pretty much all of the bakery items. (At least the ones you have been accustomed to eating all of your life).

If you want to try Keto and aren’t sure where to start, there are numerous groups on social media with supportive people giving out meal plans that include everything you need to know, right down to the shopping lists. But even so, it can all be pretty overwhelming.

That’s why when I came across an ad for Keto Chow, I took notice and really considered it.

You can have other meal replacement shakes if they are low enough in carbs. But most of them aren’t going to be low enough to enjoy and have any other carbs that day. Also, most probably will not be high enough in protein or fat to meet your other macros or supply you with the fuel you need to make it until your next meal.

Keto chow was designed to make it easy to do Keto. One shake can have the calories, fat, and protein you need to truly replace a whole meal. And they are pretty heavy and filling too. Depending on what fat you choose to use, you can also keep the carbs as low as you want them to be. And as a bonus they have extra electrolytes that you really need while doing keto.

This all sounds really fantastic. But when each sample of Keto Chow is about $4.75 plus the shipping, it can be stressful placing an order not knowing how much you may like or dislike it. Now, once you find a flavor you do like you can buy the single serve packs in bulk for a reduced price or even order a 21 serving bag of your favorite flavor for only $70.

So what did I do when I got nervous about the price? I ordered a whole bunch of sample packs. (Go big or go home.) I haven’t tried them all yet, but I have tried enough of them to give an informed opinion.

So without breaking it down flavor by flavor, I will say this. I haven’t had any that I thought were bad. Some are definitely better than others, but every one of them was good enough to finish and some were down right awesome!

The thing with Keto Chow is you have to use the right fat for the flavor. I made the mistake, after having cookies and cream with butter, (which was absolutely delicious) of making a natural strawberry with butter. That blend got a C- in my opinion. I definitely should have used cream.

I don’t want to give you a run down flavor by flavor, mainly because I really like Keto Chow overall, and my tastes may not be the same as yours. Some of the flavors that I really thought that I would love ( because they are usually my go to flavors) have been OK. While others that I usually think are just okay in other things, make amazing Keto Chow flavors.

All of the Keto Chow flavors I have tried, have a similar underlying flavor. Sometimes it is stronger than others. While all of the shakes are “sweet” flavors, they have a salty base to them because of the added electrolytes.

If you are wanting to try it I would suggest either the cookies and cream or chocolate toffee. And prepare them with butter.

If you go online and order their starter bundle, they send you a “Blender Bottle” too. I was really impressed with this bottle and went to Walmart and found more of them because I think they are super.

So incase you were not sure about where I stand with Keto Chow, I highly recommend giving it a try if you are doing Keto. While they make great meals I have sometimes whipped one up with almond milk as a snack or treat because I had a craving for sweets but did not have the room left in my diet that day for a whole other meal. They are both tasty and satisfying.
