Tips for take away

During lockdown

By Frokostordninger DKPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

The corona virus has made society close down on several occasions. In Denmark everything shot down on 13th of march, and then slowly during the warm months both restaurant, bars, educations, shops etc. began opening again. Actually the reopening of things went surprisingly well. The infection numbers stayed low, which made the summer quite mild. But then came the cold. And the virus started to spread. This has recently made restaurants and bars in a large number of communes to shot down again. Hence, only take away is possible. As a lunch company we are still open for service catering in companies. However, many people are working from home, which makes it hard for lunch companies as well. Same goes with restaurants who are only aloud to serve take away. But why is this worth talking about?

In these times - and talking as a firm who itself is in the business - it is important to support local restaurants. Even though we are in december month and some of the budget is reserved for christmas presents, it is vital that at least some of the budget goes to restaurants. If they do not get the turnover that is needed they may go into bankruptcy. And why would you care about that? Well imagine a post-world, where your favorite restaurant is gone. Where you cannot turn the corner and stumble apon the nice smell of food cooking. So it is actually about what kind of world, we want to live in.

Make take away fun

Obviously, there are a lot of restaurants to choose from - depending on where you are living of course. Instead of always choosing the same place, you can see a lockdown as a way of trying something new. Are there any world kitchens that you have always dreamt to taste? A new restaurant in the neighboorhood that you never had the chance to taste? You can also structure the days in different themes. Have a greasy sunday, a healthy monday, an exotic tuesday and so on. Surely there is also a question of money. It is the fewest people who can afford it all. So make a budget and a plan - and incorporate the take away in your budget!

Take away has upgraded tremendously in the last decade. The days where take away by definition meant a sloppy burger and a sad bunch of fries acompanied by a soda is over. Surely, you can still order a delicious burger with all means. But take away has evolved rapidely and it even includes Michelin star-food today. During corona the restaurants have been forced to think outside the box. Take away was one way of doing this. Not only during corona but also in general, the scenary of take away have developed and grown. Today you can get Italian, Indian, Asian, American, Danish and all other sorts of food. Take away is interpreted as a delicious meal and a treat - not just a quick fix in a busy everyday live.

Since the range of the food itself is much broader than before, the price follows. There was a time when take away meant a cheap meal. But surely, when the food gets better, the quality gets better, the raw materials get better, the price will also get higher. But this is part of the experience. If you want to eat a well cooked that reflects the feeling of being on a restaurant, you cannot tag it with a 5 dollar price. This would feel ambigious.

We wish you a haooy takw away hunting and are very exited to hear what kinds of food you have tried. Hit us with a comment of your best take away experience during corona!
