The Fantastic shoemaker

The Art Hidden in Simplicity

By Abbas aliPublished 3 months ago 3 min read

In a small, quiet village surrounded by green hills lived a humble shoemaker named Zarin Gul. His workshop was small, with only a wooden bench, a few tools, and shelves full of worn-out shoes waiting to be repaired. Though poor, Zarin Gul was known throughout the village for his honesty, kindness, and the magic in his hands.

Every pair of shoes he made seemed to fit perfectly, no matter who wore them. Some even whispered that his shoes could bring good luck. But Zarin Gul never claimed to be special. He simply said, “Shoes carry dreams. If I fix the shoes, maybe the dreams walk again.”

One cold winter night, when the wind howled through the streets and snow covered the rooftops, Zarin Gul stayed up late in his workshop. His candle flickered weakly as he mended a torn pair of boots for a poor farmer who could not afford new ones. His fingers were numb from the cold, but his heart was warm.

Suddenly, he heard a faint knock on his door. He opened it to find a tall, mysterious man dressed in a long cloak, holding a pair of boots unlike any Zarin had ever seen. The boots were made of shiny black leather with silver threads woven into them.

“Good evening, shoemaker,” said the man in a deep voice. “I heard you are the best. Can you fix these by tomorrow morning?”

Zarin examined the boots. The soles were worn out, and the stitches were coming loose, but he could tell they were no ordinary shoes. “I can fix them,” he said softly. “But I must ask — who are you?”

The man smiled. “Someone who walks long, secret roads. Fix these well, and you’ll be rewarded beyond gold.”

The man left, and Zarin Gul began to work. He worked through the night, carefully stitching, polishing, and whispering his usual blessing over the shoes: “Walk with honesty, and may your path lead to light.” When he finished, the boots looked new — glowing faintly under the candlelight.

As he placed them by the window, he noticed something strange: a faint silver mist rising from the boots and swirling in the air. It formed into a shape — a small glowing figure that looked like an elf!

“Thank you, kind shoemaker,” said the little being. “You’ve repaired the Boots of the Traveler — they belong to one who guards this land. Because of your pure heart, you will never walk a poor man’s path again.”

Before Zarin could speak, the elf disappeared, leaving behind a small golden coin on his workbench. When he picked it up, the coin shimmered and multiplied into a pile of gold!

The next morning, the tall man returned, wearing a smile and a twinkle in his eyes. “You have done well,” he said. “Your work carries both skill and soul. Keep this gift — you have earned it.” He nodded toward the gold, then vanished into the morning mist.

Word spread quickly through the village that the humble shoemaker had become rich overnight. Many people came, hoping to see the “magic boots,” but Zarin never spoke of them again. Instead, he used his wealth to help others — building a school, repairing houses, and giving shoes to those who had none.

When people asked how he became so fortunate, Zarin would simply smile and say, “A shoemaker’s real magic is not in gold or leather — it’s in kindness and honest work.”

Years passed, and even after Zarin Gul grew old, his shop remained a symbol of hope. Every traveler who passed through the village stopped to see where the Fantastic Shoemaker once worked — the man who stitched dreams into every pair of shoes and taught the world that true magic lives in good deeds and a humble heart.

Moral: Hard work, honesty, and kindness create miracles greater than magic.
