Tater Tot Casserole is one of my favorite meals. It is a hearty and filling meal that your whole family will love. Plus, it is super easy to make!
It is made with fried ground meat, onions, green bell peppers, and cream of mushroom soup and topped with golden brown tater tots and cheddar cheese.

Tater Tot Casserole Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds of ground meat (beef, chicken, turkey, venison, etc...)
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- Approximately 20 unbaked tater tots (less than a 32-ounce bag)
- 2 10.75 ounce cans of cream of mushroom soup
- 8 ounces of milk
- 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
- Dash of salt
- Dash of ground black pepper
Getting It Done:
- In a frying pan on medium-high heat, fry the ground meat until no longer pink. Scramble and break it up as it cooks. Drain the excess grease if needed.
- Dice the onion and green bell pepper. Add them once the burger is browned and drained. Let it fry until the peppers and onions are tender.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a bowl, add the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper, and mix it well. Mix it well with the meat, onions, and peppers.
- Pour the meat and mushroom soup mixture into a 9″ x 13″ casserole dish.
- Position tater tots on top and bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
- Remove the dish from the oven and evenly sprinkle the tater tots with the cheese.
- Put the dish back in the oven for a few minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt.
- Remove it from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
- Divide the casserole into 8 squares and serve.
For this recipe, I used ground venison hamburger meat. If you don't have venison, you can use beef, chicken, turkey, or any other type of ground meat that you prefer or have on hand.
This is an all-in-one meal. You don't need any sides, but if you insist, a nice salad or steamed veggies complement this dish. It is great as leftovers the next day, too.
To reheat, place the leftovers on the countertop for an hour. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Make sure the Tater Tot Casserole is cut into squares. This will allow the center to heat more efficiently without overcooking the edges. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Reheat for about 20 minutes or until heated well. The temperature in the middle should be at least 165°F. You can use the microwave, but the tater tots will become soggy.
