Common Salts
Table Salt - Ok so we all know this to be the most common salt. Table Salt is refined and processed until most of the trace elements are are removed and it is pure sodium chloride. It can be very irritating to the skin so it should not be used in body scrubs or bath water.
Sea Salt - is derived directly from the living ocean or sea and is harvested naturally through evaporation via the sun & wind. Since sea salt goes through very little process and not as refined as other salts, it maintains trace elements of zinc, iron, calcium, potassium & magnesium. Health benefits of sea salt include: Improves digestion, helps regulate blood pressure, reduces fluid retention & helps balance electrolytes just to name a few. Some skin benefits include absorbing toxins from the skin, hydrating the skin, soothing sore muscles, exfoliating & softening the skin.
Dead Sea Salt - Dead Sea Salt has a salt concentration of 33% versus the 3 percent found in your average ocean. It's actually called the Dead Sea because the high concentration makes it impossible for anything except bacteria and microbial fungi to live in it. Dead Sea Salt contains about 10x more minerals than regular sea salt which help better assist with cleansing & detoxifying the skin. It contains magnesium, potassium, calcium chlorides, and a high concentration of bromides which helps ease muscle cramps. Dead Sea Salt creates a oxygenating effect that soothe & polish the skin making it more youthful.
Himalayan Pink Salt - Ok I know there's like this big hype about Pink Himalayan salt and the reason being is that well...…it's pink. Now it is a great natural alternative to table salt and has a high content of iron which is what gives it it's pink color, so if you're lacking iron it might be something to try. It also contains 84 other trace elements but they come in very small amounts so you would have to consume a lot of it to reap the benefits. As for you skin, it does have antimicrobial properties so if your having problems with body acne try soaking in a warm Himalayan salt bath......now that I think of it, I believe all salt has antimicrobial properties......Anyway there are claims that it helps stimulate circulation but there's not really much evidence to prove that. It is a very dry salt so that makes it great for aromatherapy but other than that..........it's pink.
Epsom Salt - Epsom salt was first discovered in Epsom, England in 1968. Epsom Salt is high in magnesium which helps improve circulation, reduce inflammation, reduce blood clots, & lower blood pressure. It is also great for relieving muscular aches & pains. It is also great to use for exfoliating the skin. Epsom Salt improves the body's use of insulin, and regulates electrolytes therefore improving nerve function. So if you're feeling a little sore and need to relax try mixing Epsom salt, lavender & lemon essential oil together and put it in your bath water. For muscular pains and replacing nutrients try mixing Epsom Salt and Dead Sea salt together in your bath water.
