Pumpkin-Pear Bake for Natural Constipation Relief
Baking Our Way to Sweet Relief
Ok, can we please talk about poo for a second? Why don’t doctors seem bothered by the fact that our son has been struggling with constipation for about 6 months now? He takes a stool softener two or three times a day, and if he stops for even one day, he becomes blocked up again.
We’ve taken him to doctors. The first one didn’t even want to hear my story; he just kept talking over the top of me. He said it was normal and we could continue the stool softener for a few weeks, which then turned into several months. After more time with no improvement, I went to a different doctor, and she also didn’t seem to understand that I was concerned about the duration of his constipation. Instead, she was focused on how long he had been taking the stool softeners. She looked up the medication on her doctor version of Google (this always makes me lose a little faith in their ability) and eventually told me we can just keep using the stool softener for years.
The doctors don’t seem worried, so I guess I shouldn’t worry. So here we are, permanently on stool softeners and trying to help things along with good diet choices. Which reminds me, I’m here to share a recipe with you!
I’ve taken a simple breakfast recipe and put my own spin on it to include pumpkin and pear, which is a great combo to get things moving! I like it because it’s quick and easy - throw all the ingredients in a food processor, give it a whirl, then pour it in a baking tray and bung it in the oven. It also comes out nice and soft, so it’s great for baby-led weaning.
Pumpkin-Pear Relief Bake
Serves: 4
Ingredients
1 pear
150g (about 5.3 oz) butternut pumpkin
1 egg
½ C milk (about 4 oz)
50g (about 1.75 oz) plain flour
½ tsp baking powder
50g (about 1.75 oz) almond meal
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350°F).
2. Peel and dice the pumpkin and pear and boil over the stove for 10 minutes, or until soft.
3. Drain the pear and pumpkin and place in a food processor. Process until smooth.
4. Add egg, flour, baking powder, almond meal and cinnamon. Process again until smooth.
5. Line a 20cm square (about 8 in) baking tray with baking paper and spray with oil. Pour the mixture into the tray.
6. Bake for 20 – 30 minutes, or until golden. You can test if it’s cooked through by inserting a skewer and seeing if it comes out clean.
7. Cut into 4 squares and eat as is, or topped with yoghurt and berries.
8. You can freeze the leftovers in the freezer for up to three months.
Serving suggestions
I usually serve this to him for breakfast, and he loves it! It can also be enjoyed as a snack or a dessert, and you might want to make a double batch so you have some for yourself!
For those keeping an eye on calories, I calculated the calories per serve using MyFitnessPal, and you will be pleased to know it’s only about 205 calories per serve.

Poor baby! I hope that things get better for him soon! Btw your treat sounds yummy! 🌸
This sounds really tasty 😋
I have the same issue. Is his stomach huge like a pot belly? If it with bloating and heartburns? The reason the doctor don't give other medication is the side affect could affect his kidneys and liver if prolong in taking it. As for surgeries in the gut, serious complications worst than what he is going through now. If his poop start to get pebble like, consult his doctor and show them the picture. If he is vomiting and have stomach pain take him to ER. They will give him a cat scan
