"A Super Sunday with Chicken Biryani"

"A flavourful reminder that food brings family together, one spicy spoonful at the time"

There's something magical about Sundays in South Africa-what we fondly call Super Sunday. In most households the country, this day is reserved for meals that go beyond just nourishment. It's about heritage, community, and slowing down to enjoy Flavors that connect us to our roots.

Yesterday was one of those Sundays. I decided to prepare Chicken Biryani- a rich, fragrant dish that holds a special place in our hearts, even though it originates from different culture. South Africa is known as a Rainbow Nation, and one of the many blessings of that is the chance to experience and enjoy traditional meals from variety of cultures, Biryani, in this context, becomes more than just food. It becomes a celebration of diversity.

Although I love elaborate meals, simplicity is a big part of who I am. I believe that food doesn't have to be complicated to be meaningful. Cooking, to me, is more than a task- It's my daily therapy session. The slicing, stirring, and seasoning help me express emotions I sometimes don't words for.

So, while Sunday was calm and quiet, I still made sure my Family didn't miss out on the warm, comforting experience of a hearty biryani. There were no extravagant sides or complicated starters - just a well-made, flavourful biryani served with love. And that was enough.

In that moment, sitting together over plates of steaming biryani, we weren't just eating-we were connecting. And that's what makes every meal worth it.

As the biryani cooked, the scent travelled through the house and pulled everyone to the kitchen like a magnet. That what food does - it gathers us, it reminds to sit down, and connect, when we finally sat down to easy,it wasn't just about the food. It was about the conversation, the stories, the laughter, and the shared silence that felt just as comforting.

Cooking biryani reminded me that being part of culturally rich country is a privilege. I get to learn from others, experience their traditions, and sometimes, bring their meals into my home. It's beautiful how one pot of food can carry history, identify, and emotion all at once.

And as i looked around the table that evening. I felt peace. A simple, satisfying peace that comes from doing something you love-for people you love.

The act of cooking this meal felt like a bridge - connecting me not only to other cultures, but to memories of my childhood. I remember sitting in my grandmother's kitchen, mwatching her cook with care and patience. I didn't realize then how deeply those moments would shape me. Now, every time I prepare a meal, I carry her spirit with me.

This dish also helped me appreciate the present moment. Often, we rush through our days, ticking off tasks and missing the title joys, But cooking biryani made me pause. It reminded me that nourishment is more than just food- It's comfort, it's tradition, and sometimes, It's even a form of healing.

So, as the sun set and our plates emptied, I was filled with something much greater than just a good meal. I was filled with gratitude-for culture, for food, for family and the gift of sharing a part of myself through something as simple as a dish. It also reminded me how cooking and tasty food help me with grief when I lost my mom, I cooked so many dishes as i was in a journey of healing as i do revisit some of her special dish.

Cooking for me is not a hobby but i make a statement also share my emotion through cooking as it my therapy session held in my kitchen.
