I love to eat. and i love to eat good. As a Lisbon resident i have acces to a to a big variety of food restaurants but then it happens as i've started into cooking my focus has been mainly vegan .. i can still tolerate or appreciate lets say some real cheese though but slowly and slowly I'm getting to vegan side. And lucky me! I have resumed 10 amazing vegan friendly restaurants.
Kitchen Dates
They have gone far. i got in love with this place, they put together a zero waste kitchen and the consumtion of local organic products. Sustanability is their niche i have to say. Let me mention this: Everything that enters into their kitchen is consumed, reused or transformed into a compound – by their electrical compost machine, Eva, which in 24 hours processes organic matter. This compound is then delivered to the producers. If you ever dreamt about a kitchen with no bins and zero waste philosophy well, they have it.
They also do sell they're own manufactured products on their website, and the restaurant is an extention of their house.
Arkhe
So worth booking a table at this place. Run by the chef João Ricard Alves, he came back to Portugal from Bali after running the kitchen of the very famous FiveElements restaurant and when he arrived he idealised this place and made it become true. Their menu is focused on each season of the year and his ideas use french and italian kitchen tecniques aligned with asiatic flavours, local products, very much in the direction of sustainability. Beautifuly green inside with so many plants that João's always takes care off.
The Green Affair
Another plantbased restaurant with international cuisine, desserts and cocktails. Traditional food in vegan versions and a great fusion style kitchen with cauliflower appetizers and a seitan steak. Prices are very fair and the quality product is high.
My Mother's Daughters
This one is run by the Mother and her two daughters. Really small but so cozy this place. They work in majority with organic and local products and most time they have a "zero waste" choice on their menu on a lower price. They produce almost everything they sell and have an amazing coffe and range of vegan lattes, my favorite one is with red mushroom dust.
Legumi
Alright so this is the place that took sushi to another level. First vegan sushi restaurant in Portugal, they have this incredible sashimi that looks like real salmon but is made out of tapioca and some other magic ingredients. Absolutely colorful, tasty and guilty free. Their menu is created with their morning groceries that they by at the local mercado so don't get surprised if you don't always find the same options gor for their new creations, they're worth a try.
Quintal de Santo Amaro
Organic, gluten-free and Lactofree. Very beautiful garden inside with so many herb spices growing. Vegan, sustainable and working mostly with local producers. Fresh food everyday, several toasts, bowls and desserts on their menu and they have a lucnh box with a special menu of the day. One of my favourite places, love the design and the flowers.
O Botanista
Owned by Catarina Batista ( owner of Ao 26 - Vegan Project) and Andre Baptista. Their place is very much green, a restaurant full of beautiful plants and a great menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Vegan Junkies
Best vegan junk food in town. Their niche is fast quality food. They're very known for their super stylish big size burgers.
Moko
Best vegan pastry in Lisbon, it was before a place called Boulangeries Cotes and now its Moko. They have everything, coffe, cheese bread, croissants and many frozen vegan products made by themselves. Worth a try!
Ao 26 - Vegan Food Project
Owned by the same lady, Catarina, from Botanista restaurant. This place is amazing, they have many traditionl portuguese foods but in vegan versions. Their classic "bifana de seitan" its something you'll want to try. Open for breakfast lunch and dinner this restaurant has much to say about plant based food.
