What would you do with 20,000? Buy a car? Invest it?

Well 18 year old Vianna Williams got that choice.

*knock*

*knock*

Door opens

“Excuse me” says a man in a suit with a briefcase“ this is the Williams family house if I’m not mistaken”

“ yeah” says Vianna “ and you are”

“Vianna!” Says her mother “ that’s no way to talk to someone”

“ well” Vianna yells “ if he would tell me who he was..”

“ Charles” he interrupts “ Charles Reagan, best friend of your grandfather and finance advisor ”

“ Mr. Reagan” says Mrs.Williams “ I haven’t seen you since I was little”

“ yes it has been a while hasn’t it”

“ well yes” says Mrs.Williams “ we’d better catch up”

Vianna sits there quietly as they talk,

“ so” Mr. Reagan asks “ I came here because I wanted to talk you, The young Ms. Willams and Mr.Williams

Vianna and Mrs.Williams sat there for a second then Mrs. Williams broke the silence

“ first off” she says “ call me Diane and there is no Mr. Williams he…”

“ Died” Vianna said “ yeah he died”

Vianna and Diane knew that wasn’t true and that Vianna dad left and started a new family with her mom's best friend.

You see right out of High school Vianna parents got married, when Diane was 19 she was pregnant with Vianna, and her dad didn’t want kids so earlier in life so they got divorced and Vianna was born technically with no dad because he refused to sign the birth certificate, and really there was no Mr. Williams, the only Mr. Williams was Diane’s Father, Williams was Diane’s maiden name and was given to Vianne.

Vianna Didn’t spend a lot of time with her father, she mostly lived with her mother and sometimes her grandpa,

It was easier to just tell people he was dead than to explain to everybody that her dad left her for his other kids.

“ well” Mr.Reagan said “ I’m sorry to hear that and as you know The other Mr. Willams or Hayward, died a few weeks ago”

“ yes” Diane said “we are aware “

Mom thought that she was the only child she was the only heir but boy was she wrong

“Hayward Williams has given all assets to Vianna Serenity Willams ”

When I heard that I almost fainted, mom almost did too but not for the same reason,

Everyone had always known that grandpa lived in a big house and drove fancy cars and had lots of money, but nobody knew how much money he really had.

Vianna

Mom acted nice the whole time Mr.Reagan was leaving but as so as that front door closed, she got real angry real fast,

“ your going to give me that money” she yelled

“ no im not” i said “grandpa gave it to me”

“ then you're getting out of my house” she says

“ mom” i say

“ no” she replies get out of my house”

I run to my room and start to back my things

“ Vianna” she says “ i didn’t mean..”

“ I’m leaving” I say “ since you only want the money”

She sat there for a moment then walked out of my bedroom, when i walked out of the house i took a bus to my grandfather's house when i got there i used the key he gave me to get in,

When i walked into the house i gasped, i hadn’t been to his house in a while, and i really hadn’t look at how big it was,

I walked into my grandfather’s room, it smelled of mint, has it has in the past,

then i walked down a long hall into my room, I set my things down onto my bed and then I picked up my phone,

Mom (12 missed calls)

Mom (24 texts)

Mom (10 voicemails)

Priscilla (1 missed calls)

I called Priscilla and she answered?

“Hey” I say

“ hey girly” she says “ want to meet up”

“ sure” I say “ meet me at the gas station by 25 th street”

“ ok” she says “ see you in 15”

When the call ends I think to myself, “I’m going to tell her that I got all my grandpa assets” I think “ I’m going to tell her I have my own house now”

com'on” Priscilla says holding the gas station door

for me

“ Coming” I say running towards the door

“ well come faster Vianna ”

“ I’m sorry” I say laughing “ I’m sorry”

“ don’t be sorry” pri says with sass “ just don’t be slow!”

“ look pri” I say pointing to a boy, kaycee, who works there” it’s your boyfriend”

“ I wish” she says with stars in her eyes “ but there is no way he will look in my direction”

“ oooh Pri” I say “ there will be other boys out there for you”

“ your right vi ” she says

“ aren’t I always” I laugh

After that, we walk over to the snack aisle, and grab some chips, candy and then some soda

“ here” we say handing it to the kaycee “ and two lottery ticket”

“ alright” he says “ your total is $10.44”

Pri and I empty our pockets and place every dollar, coin, and button unto to counter,

“ sh*t” I say counting the money on the table “ we’re 25 cents short”

“ oh no problem” he says placing a quarter on the table

“ thanks” I say

“ yeah” he says

We walk out of the store and look at each other,

“ where to now” Pri says

“ well Pri” I say laughing “ we got the whole neighborhood at the palm of our hands”

“ race ya” she says starting to run

“ hey!” I say chasing after her

Finally pri runs out of breathe and stops at a old abandoned building,

“ pri” I say “ you should be a track star”

“ you sound like my mom” she says

“ oh I do not” I say

“ Priscilla darling” she says mimicking her mom “ you should try out for the track team”

“ she’s not wrong” I say

“Oh please” she says crossing her arms “ just hand me the d*mn pop and candy”

“ fine” I laugh handing her a soda and a bag of candy

When we finish all the snacks and drinks, we grab the two lottery tickets from the bottom of the plastic bag,

“ take this” pri says handing me a nickel from her pocket

“thanks” I say starting to scratch the ticket, I scratch off the first lottery ticket,

“ pri look” I say “ $10”

“ nice” pri says grabbing the ticket out of my hand

“ hey! Pri!” I say “ we’re splitting that”

“ ughh fineee” pri says handing it back to me

I scratch off the second one,

“20,000!!!” I say standing

“ your a liar” she replies

“ I am no such thing” I say “ here, look at it”

She grabs the ticket out of my hand and looks at it,

“ it is real” pri says “ really real”

“ well no sh*t” I say “ c'mon let’s go back to the gas station”

We sprint back to the gas station and slam the tickets on the counter,

“$20,010”

“ alright” says kaycee “ let’s see if there real or not”

“ why would you think they weren’t real” I say putting my hands on my hips”

“ never mind” he says scanning it “ it’s real”

“ yeah” pri says “ we know

“ here” kaycee says handing it to me

“ thanks” I say wrapping it in news paper

We walk out of the store,

“Com’on” I say “ let’s go to my grandpa’s house

“ ok” pri says “ but didn’t he pass away

“ just follow me”

We walk to my grandpa’s house and I open the door,

“ welcome to my house” I say as she enters

“ your house” she says “ did he.. give you everything”

“ pretty much” I say “ all assets”

“ that’s so cool” she says

“ and that why I want you to have this” I say handing over the money wrapped in newspaper

“ no, no” she says “ I couldn’t, I can’t”

“ I insisted” I say grabbing her hand and placing the money into it

She takes it and puts it into her pocket,

“ so this is all your yours” she says looking around the house

“ yes pri” I say “ and you can stay anytime you want”

“ thanks vi” pri replies “ how mad was Diane”

“ pretty mad” I say laughing

“ how many times did she call you” pri asks

“ about 12” I say

“ that’s sounds real fun” pri says sarcastically

“ hey pri” I say “ you go find a movie, I have something I want to look at”

“ k” pri says flopping down on the couch

I walk into my grandpa’s study, I sit down at his desk and open the drawer, when I do I see a little black book on the cover it says,

TO VIANNA, THE ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS

I open it and the first page reads,

Dear sweet, sweet Vianna,

You're probably wondering why I gave you all of this, why I chose you instead of your mom or any charity, well the truth is that you are the only one who cared for me, every weekend you would be at my front door step, ready to bake cookies, or to pretend that we were flying, and as you got older, I got frailer and I thought that that would be the end of all our fairy tales, but alias I was wrong, you cared for me when I was sick you helped me when I was in need, you did everything for me, and now it is time that I repay you

Tapped under the paragraph was the deed to the house

I smiled and looked at a picture of him and I laughing outside in the sun,

“ I love you”

(In the end vianna didn’t care about the house, or the money, or her mother’s anger, she was just happy she made her grandpa happy, and that she was lucky enough to have him in her life, even if eventually it had to end!)
