Everyone has a time when they crave a certain food. Chocolate, pickles, sardines, popcorn, you name it. Usually you see this when people haven't had something for a long time or there body is undergoing some kind of change. In this story I will be going over my younger brothers insane obsession with cheese that drove everyone in my family batty for years and still continues to this day.

My younger brother Dustin is the second youngest in my family of 8. He is a real troublemaker with an intense love for rocks and fluffy animals. There is never a dull moment when he is up to his usual mischief, but when it came to his food habits things took a trip down whackyville. Started around the time Dustin turned 7 years old, we began to get this insane craving for cheeses. String cheese, cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack, Swiss, you name it, he ate them all. For quite some time, we actually couldn't figure out why our cheese was disappearing from our fridge so fast, especially considering the rest of us were more reserved when eating cheese. It wasn't until we caught him hiding behind my mothers recliner eating a two pound block of cheese that we discovered his food cravings and boy did he look embarrassed when we all found out.

Our parents had a long talk with him on diets and the importance of balancing things out so as to keep our bodies running smoothly, but this didn't end his cheddar chomping streak. The amount of cheese disappearing certainly did decrease, but now there was tiny bites from his teeth left from where he had snuck a bit off of his favorite snack. It took some creative thinking but we eventually came up with a solution that made everyone happy. This solution was to provide dustin with his own sets of cheeses he could chow down on but he could only eat so much as a time because otherwise he would have to wait even longer to curb his cravings. For the longest time now we have kept up this routine and so far it has kept our fridge full, but then a new problem arose: Dustin began to had bread.

Bread was one of our family favorites as we would often make fresh bread every other week in order to save money. It was actually a fun family bonding activity as we all gained knowledge on how to make our own bread and we got to have a fun time playing around with it. The only downside was when Dustin began a bread shunning strike. Of course he will still eat bread if its in a sweet pastry or when it comes to pizza, but if there is any kind of sandwich or toast with hardly anything to satisfy his taste buds, he just snubs it. Even our families signature bouncy cloverleaf rolls with delicate amounts of butter and sweet nutty notes keeps him away as if he is standing next to a latrine.

Everyone has there likes and dislikes, but sometimes I think some things are better when you find what makes everyone happy and nobody goes hungry. For instance, I couldn't even eat yogurt for 11 years because I couldn't stand the crunchiness of the seeds between my teeth that came from the fruit within them. After a while though I came around and found a way to enjoy it, through succulent fruity morning smoothies. I really hope my brother will come around this dilemma and find a way to enjoy the food that is brought before him, for without food, we are but dust in the wind.
