pregnancy
Growing your family, one baby bump at a time. All about the ups and downs of nature's 9 month miracle.
The Language of Pregnancy
I calculate I have been pregnant for three years of my life (9x4=36/12=3). My maternal great-grandmother had 11 children, so she was pregnant for eight years and three months of her life (9x11=99/12=8.25). If I were an elephant with an 18-22 month pregnancy, that could be six years to seven years and four months (18x4=72/12=6; 22x4=88/12=7.33). In elephant pregnancy years, my great-grandmother would have been pregnant for 16 years and six months to 20 years and 5ish weeks (18x11=198/12=16.5; 22x11=242/12=20.16).

6 Body Changes You Don’t Expect While Pregnant
Every parenting blog will talk about the same types of changes that happen to your body when you’re expecting: you’ll get intense cravings (pickles and peanut butter were a must every day during my first and second trimester), you’ll feel nauseous all the time, and your ankles and feet swell to the point where no shoe will fit.

Not One for Surprises
To baby number four, The twenty week ultrasound is exhilarating. We have done this three times before, but it is still a terrifically exciting day. Maybe this time it carries a little more weight. You see, you have three older brothers. We were confident baby number three was a girl. We had a little girl’s name at about eight weeks. Then the ultrasound technician said something about there being no doubt it was a boy from this angle. The important thing of course is that your brother was and is healthy, but it still caused us to pause, quietly be dejected for a moment, and move on. Four kids was always the plan right? So, here we are again. The ultrasound technician asks, “Do you want to know if it’s a boy or a girl?”

Iron-Rich Foods You Should Consume During Pregnancy
Our body uses iron to make hemoglobin, which is located in red blood cells and is responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. During pregnancy, the mother's body needs to provide enough oxygen for the baby, which means that much more hemoglobin will be needed.

Life Changing, One Push at a Time
It's 5 am, do you know where your children are? Well, I know where I am. It's 5 am, I'm freshly showered, and ready to get this kid OUT OF ME! At this point in my pregnancy, it pretty much hurt to be alive. For the past 3 weeks, I would have to wake up in the middle of the night just to turn over on my other side. I felt like I was giving birth to heavy weights that were just weighing down my bladder, and my legs. I was ready.... nay... I was DESPERATE to finally get this wonderful bundle of joy the hell out of me.

I’ve been with my now fiancé since I was about 15 years old. I always knew I wanted to be a mother and we always talked about having a family. So you can imagine that when we learned we were having our first child, we were both overjoyed.

The lesser your cravings with your desires, the more fulfillment with your rewards
Recently I came across a quote from one of my friends. It kindled my memories of my daughter's arrival. "The lesser your cravings for your desires to get fulfilled, the more fulfillment with your rewards.".
