Still, Please
My husband loves to fish. That’s fine! I understand completely, as I do, too. Unfortunately, right now, I’m still recovering from knee surgery. Okay, so I’m at the tail end of my recovery but having my knee still somewhat stiff, I’m hesitant to get on the boat.

A Whiskey Lullaby
The next three years together were some of the wildest times of my life. Together we partied all night long most nights. My friends became his friends and his friends became my friends. We became a group of friends living our best life. We were two young lovers trying to escape a curfew and roam the streets at night in the hot summer nights. I had two miscarriages at the ages of seventeen and eighteen. When I turned nineteen I got pregnant again for the third time with our first son, Jordan. One short month after he was born, Cody and I got married. I married my best friend, and I brought a beautiful baby boy into this world that was made with love. Life was simply beautiful. Life with Cody was an adventure.

A Whiskey Lullaby
Lets rewind and be kids again. Back before most of our favorite people existed. Before the heart felt it's first sting. Before we knew that sunsets could be unbearable. Or how tomorrow really never is promised. Lets rewind so it doesn't hurt so bad. When a breath of fresh air was everywhere. When sunrises were beautiful. When things were whole. How beautiful it was to step outside and love all that existed. So clear... and sunny. Nature so vivid, alive, and clear. The noise of life never sounded so beautiful. Now we are here, where the clouds always linger. And the sound of life is no longer joyful...

The New American Dream For Women
There was a time when just about every little girl in America dreamed of her wedding day. She thought of a special day in the future, where she’d dress like a princess, invite all of her friends and family, and marry her Prince Charming. Then they would buy a house, have three or four children, and live happily ever after.

IS ADULTERY A PHASE IN A MARRIAGE?
As I write this piece, I'm still wondering about this issue of adultery and the idea of it being a phase in a marriage. It's such an important and big concept..too big for just a few minutes of contemplation or a few hours of conversation or even the longest blog post.

Life Partner
Having a lifetime partner is a very serious matter. Don’t venture if you’re not ready. It’s serious business. Marriage is a life long journey. It will try you time and time again. Only patient, tolerant, perseverant people can handle it. It will drive you crazy. Can you cope?

Father Value
Family structures can be connected to the idea of a family tree. The structure is based upon who had breed together to create the family that exists as a whole and tends to continue to grow. Family structures can also be defined by the roles or power each individual has in the lineage. Normally the Grandmother and her husband hold the highest power that gets passed down to their children, eldest to youngest, and they pass it down to their children. I’ve learned hierarchy proves nothing other than age being increased, in my opinion of the black families. Much like other populations, we tend to suffer from single-parent households and poverty. I plan to discuss the findings of Patricia Thomas of Duke University on the effects of father presence in black homes.

The Story Behind My New Last Name
As many people have noticed, I recently legally changed my last name from Blessing to Blessing-Nelson. Since men don't ordinarily change their last names after getting married, I have been getting many questions from people who are curious about why I changed my name. The short answer to why my last name is now different is because I got married, and one of the many decisions you have to make when you get married is what your last name will be going forward. There are many options, and my wife and I chose to both hyphenate our names (we now both have the last name of Blessing-Nelson).
