A Singlish Christmas
“Make memories…don’t let them make you.” -Michelle Liew Author’s Note: I have written this little tale in Singlish, the variant of English spoken among the locals here in sunny Singapore. The sentence constructions are slightly different, and I have added explanations of local expressions.

How a Mother Raises Her Child: From Conception to Delivery
How a mother raises her child: From conception to delivery Life begins as a miracle, and for Sophia, that miracle unfolded one quiet evening under the soft glow of her bedroom lamp. She stared at the pregnancy test in her trembling hand, her heart pounding like a drum. Two pink lines confirmed it: she was pregnant. In that moment, Sophia's world shifted. She was no longer just herself; she was a mother-to-be.

I Wish You Were Here
14 years ago today, you left us. I really wish that you were here right now to tell me that Jesus loves me and to remind me to trust in him, but... you taught your daughter well as she keeps reminding me. You'd be so proud of my Mom!

Looking Back and Planning Ahead
Last Christmas was nothing short of wonderful, though it didn’t start that way. I was so preoccupied with work—long hours, endless emails, and tight deadlines—that December crept up on me. It wasn’t until I stumbled across a box of old decorations while cleaning that it hit me: I missed our family Christmases. I missed the warmth, the laughter, and the way everything used to feel so simple and connected.

Bunny Hop Hop
The sign reads: Handmade, A locally made product. The price reflects these two factors. A beautifully painted ornament hangs on a branch just beyond the sign. The ornament depicts a holiday scene outside of a house that happens to look like her childhood home. The family is playing in the blankets of snow. A sunset is just starting, shown by the presence of sky blue still being present with slight tints of pink, purple, and orange behind the silhouettes.Wendy could almost picture it already on her parents tree amongst the other ornaments. Each ornament adorning her parents tree was a gift, or purchased from a trip, or representing some special moment. The Christmas tree was more than just a decoration. It was a patchwork of their lives together. The tree was a photo album, of sorts, of years passed. The problem was purchasing the ornament without being seen and without being suspected of shoplifting. Of course the ornament was a one of a kind, which added a bit of anxiety around putting it back. It's not that the others were bad, but they felt lacking next to this one. She heard footsteps approaching behind her. Wendy shoved the ornament under the tree, hoping it was hidden and out of sight.

The Sparkle of Christmas Eve
The snow fell softly on the small town of Ever pine, blanketing the streets in shimmering white. Twinkling lights adorned every home, casting a warm glow that reflected off the frost-covered windows. It was Christmas Eve, and the air was filled with the hum of anticipation. Children laughed, carolers sang, and families gathered around crackling fires to share stories and hot cocoa. But for ten-year-old Clara Bennett, this Christmas Eve felt different—almost magical.
