Beyond Beauty
Alyssa, my middle child, was never an introvert, but during her freshman year of high school I noticed a change in her. She became reluctant to try new things, experience new places and even struggled with making phone calls to people she didn’t know. She was moody and often cried. Although her grades were exceptional, she started to struggle with playing the sports that she had been participating in since the age of five. She eventually quit basketball and softball, and remained a bench warmer for soccer, while limiting herself to throwing discus and javelin for track for field.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
The very first day in Philadelphia I became friends with the local kids. They all naturally congregate around our porch because we are in the middle of the block and have a double set of stairs with our next-door neighbors. It was so nice to receive their warm welcome, and I quickly became very fond of my 'porch kids'. I quickly realized it wasn't always very safe to live in our neighborhood, as we often heard gunshots nearby and all the kids would freeze, head on one side, waiting to find out if it was gunfire or fireworks. It is sad that they became such audial experts. I bought a big, child-friendly dog who they could all cuddle when they were scared or sad. Great Pyrenees are excellent with children, and very protective. Kiyoko loved nothing more than being cuddled, but barked to scare away any unknown adults who came near her children.

Cooking Creations
I absolutely love to cook and create new mouth-watering experiences for myself and my family......I have a ridiculous "Pinterest- food folder" with just about every recipe you can think of....minus desserts and sweets. I have never baked much of anything. I stay away from sugar altogether except for my wine (Mommy Juice). I do love to make food from scratch because it's fun, challenging AND I like to know about all of the ingredients in the food that I am eating and feeding to my family.

How to Keep Children Safe Online
Now that children have been attending school over the internet for over a year, the time they spend behind a screen has increased dramatically. A child that before the pandemic had a maximum screen time of one hour per day, is now taking online classes and fulfilling all assignments on a computer, thus increasing their time on the internet dramatically. With this increased screen time the risk of online threats to children also rises.

How to Encourage Your Child to Give You Eye Contact
As parents, we all look for those little milestones. Milestones such as first smile, convincing ourselves it wasn’t wind. Eye contact is another milestone that is heartwarming for a parent. It is also one of the social factors that a child on the autism spectrum (ASD) may find intimidating.
