Memories, Buried
The computer chimed that the massive audio file had finally finished sending. It always made Alex Roth nervous, wondering if his latest jingle would arrive in time to the corporate producers. He swiveled in a gray office chair to look at his wall calendar. It hung beneath the shadow box of the burial flag from his father. Heather liked to make him a calendar every year, bringing her camera roll and set of duplicates into the local print shop. She had a talent for seeing people and capturing a moment.

Chateau Charals
The forest swayed gently in the wind as the clouds that floated above Melanie invited her to jump across them. The forest at the edge of the Charals Estate was the most enchanted place. To Melanie, the sparkling dew on the trees in the early morning looked like fairy jewels that added to the magic of the morning.

Hidden In The Music
“He’s gone, he’s just gone. You don’t need to come.” These are the words that Karen, my stepmother spoke to me minutes after my father died. I was driving frantically to the hospital in a vain attempt to see him before he passed but since I lived an hour away my efforts were too little, too late.

F is for Family
Hello, it has been a while. I do not know whether it is appropriate to tell my story, so it isn't easy to begin. I have by no means been through significant trauma, just life. If any story should be shared is that of my Mum, that's what should provoke sincere sympathy.

After my parents were murdered during a robbery all I could think about was becoming a doctor so I could save lives. It really dawned on me that I wasn’t able to save my parents who laid on the floor in front of me bleeding out. But who am I kidding I was a 14 year old girl who was told by her parents to hide and not to come out until they said so. My moms last words were “Jade come out and call the police now!”

Time Lost
Tick. Tick. Tick. The clock was the only sound in the room. Silence filled the space as our hearts clenched at the words the attorney had just spoken, “His will and testament is as follows…”. Each grandchild was to receive twenty thousand dollars for their education. Those that had already finished college were free to use the money as they wanted. I was one of the lucky few who would be able to spend their money freely. Grandpa was a strong force in our family. He was incredibly good with money and managed to pass along those values to us kids. He believed that if you worked hard enough for something you could accomplish anything, or die trying. I was the spokesperson for the “die trying” part of his philosophy. In college I majored in English and wanted to pursue a career in writing. I ended up with a bachelors in English and a job working for a retirement facility. I was never one to complain, my grandmother had gotten me the job because she has friends that live there. I am in charge of the group activities.

The Brown Bear
Going through her grandmother's belongings weighed heavily on her heart. Penny spotted George, a brown bear puppet, sitting in her grandmother's rocking chair. She cried. Holding it to her chest, for as long as she could remember, memories of her grandmother, or mom-mom as she called her, holding George up to the FaceTime screen and pretending the three of them were having a conversation. Penny decided she would keep George. He even smelled like her with a soft, vanilla scent.
