Dear Summer,
The sun melted behind the buildings while the clouds grew gray and wild. It was a humid summer day and my sister Shannon and I were on my way to my grandparents’ house. My grandparents’ house was our sweet escape. No overprotective father or overworked mother but grandparents that welcomed us warmly and appreciated our presence.

Treasure Hunt
Maggy and Murphy had their noses pressed against the cold glass of the window overlooking their backyard. "Can we go outside yet?" shouted Murphy. His mother was downstairs washing dishes from their breakfast. Maggy had always been quiet and Murphy did most of the talking in the house. "In a minute!" replied Mother. As impatient as Murphy was, being inside the house waiting for the snow to stop for the last half hour was quite impressive. "Do you remember where the package is?" whispered Maggy to Murphy. "Under the trampoline dummy," Murphy replied, rolling his eyes. They were both greatly anticipating the moment mother released them into the wilderness of the backyard. They both had red down jackets on, black mittens, blue snow pants, green boots, and white beanies.

When you need it.
My grandmother was an eccentric woman. She had a small quirky shop full of dream catchers and other crystal magic and spellbook memorabilia. She often shared stories of supernatural encounters which were entertaining but very clearly exaggerated. I loved my Grandmother very much and spent most of my time in her small shop, listening to her stories and observing the interesting people coming and going.

Family Heirloom
Family Heirloom It's 9:43 in the morning. I’m sitting in the dining room of my parents’ home in my army fatigues. I've called this place home 18 of my 20 years. That homey feeling will never go away, but the people that lived here did. After burying Mom five years ago, my two brothers and I laid our father to rest last week. Cancer got the best of him.

To Whom It May Concern
Memories I woke up this morning with the sun coming through my window. This is my favorite way to wake up - with the wind blowing the white curtains and dust dancing across my room. As I rolled over, I felt my sheets slide over my feet when I wiggled my toes.

Uncle Fred
The ride back was quiet. My normal comedic narratives seemed out of place, so I rode in silence. The black stretch limo was nice, but had an unhealthy feel to it. The smell of fabric spray, tweed suits and sweat assaulted my nose. I tried to remember the last time I rode in a limo, it was 10 years ago now, my 21st birthday. Some of my friends took me up to Windsor to the bars and casino that drew so many American tourists and their money across the bridge to Canada. Soon we arrived back at the funeral home and we helped our grandma out and got her into our dad’s car for the short ride back to her house.
