Technology has been transforming various industries for years, and the education sector is no exception. While traditional teaching methods and practices have been prevalent for centuries, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the way we think about education. With AI-enhanced learning, students can receive personalized education at their own pace, while teachers can use data-driven insights to improve their teaching methods and provide better support to their students.

AI-enhanced learning is perfectly poised to address the teacher shortage crisis, which has been plaguing the education sector for years. As we have seen, the shortage is driven by various factors, one of which is the excessive workload that teachers have to bear. With AI-enhanced learning, teachers can leverage technology to reduce their workload, while also providing better education to their students.

One of the most promising examples of AI-enhanced learning is Squirrel AI, an AI-powered education software implemented in China back in March 2017. Today, they are at the top of their industry with over 2,700 facilities and over 2 million students located in China. A McKinsey study back in 2019 showed that Squirrel AI was proven to reduce teacher workload by up to 70% and not only does it make their job easier, this study also found that their software reduced the time it takes students to learn by up to 50%. This shows how AI technology can help teachers and students alike, by providing personalized education that is optimized for each student’s learning style.

AI-enhanced learning is transforming the way we think about education, and it is doing so in three key ways: by redistributing teacher workload, increasing classroom efficiency, and enhancing the effectiveness of teachers.

Redistributing teacher workload

One of the biggest challenges that teachers face is the sheer amount of work that they have to do. From grading assignments to creating lesson plans, teachers have to juggle multiple tasks at once, often leading to burnout and stress. AI-enhanced learning can help alleviate this workload by automating many of these tasks, freeing up teachers to focus on more important aspects of teaching, such as providing support to students and improving their teaching methods.

While it isn’t ready to make teachers breakfast, AI technology can grade assignments with remarkable accuracy, saving teachers hours of time that they can use to focus on other tasks. Moreover, AI can identify areas where students need additional help, allowing teachers to provide personalized support to their students. This means that teachers can spend more time on teaching and less time on administrative tasks, which can help reduce their workload and improve their overall job satisfaction.

Increasing classroom efficiency

Another area where AI-enhanced learning is making a huge impact is classroom efficiency. With the help of AI technology, teachers can analyze student performance data and identify areas in need of support, allowing them to address these issues with much more clarity than before. This means that teachers can provide targeted support to students, helping them overcome challenging concepts and improve their overall academic performance.

Moreover, AI can help teachers to identify patterns and trends in student learning, which can help them create more effective lesson plans. By analyzing data on student performance, teachers can identify which topics are most challenging for their students, and create lesson plans that address these topics in a more targeted and effective way. This means that students can learn more efficiently and effectively, ultimately improving their academic outcomes.

Enhancing the effectiveness of teachers

Finally, AI-enhanced learning can help enhance the effectiveness of teachers. By providing personalized insights into student learning, teachers can improve their teaching methods and provide better support to their students. With the help of AI technology, teachers can identify areas where their students need additional support, and create learning materials that address these areas in a more targeted and effective way.

This means that teachers can provide a more personalized education to their students, improving their academic outcomes and overall satisfaction with their education.

I sincerely believe that AI-enhanced learning has the potential to completely change the way we think about education, and in a way that can help address the teacher shortage crisis. By redistributing teacher workload, increasing classroom efficiency, and enhancing the effectiveness of teachers, AI technology can provide a comprehensive solution to the challenges that teachers and students face in the education sector. With the help of AI-enhanced learning, teachers can provide more personalized education to their students, reducing their workload, and improving their overall job satisfaction.

It will revolutionize and revive struggling education systems worldwide, providing a brighter future for students and teachers alike. To make this a reality someone will need to stand up and be the face of it, and I can only wonder who that’s going to be and how long from now. BUT, my guess is that it will be somewhat soon. Maybe a year? 2? I remember thinking that AI is going to become the new google search engine in some form back in December 2022, but I never would’ve imagined Bing’s AI search engine to be released merely months later. It really is happening before our eyes, our world is changing again entirely and not many see the entirety of the potential here.
