It's a life suck to retake a paper at the university level

University graduates don't usually narrate this.

If you ever imagined a school where there is no failure, it could be any regardless of its standard and nature but not a university.

Hallucination is very common in higher institutions of learning. Given the fact that every student is 99% independent of themselves, many of them do not appreciate the longevity of the courses they pursue.

To me, I think that such students did not get proper guidance either from their parents or the previous institution that they were in.

Certain curriculums aren’t certifying in a way that many gaps remain uncovered by the end of the course. Several students leave high school when they aren’t sure of what the endpoint is, for the type, of course, they will do at a higher institution. If not well guided, they end up failing. But again, if they do fail, it’s because they either relaxed and never took a particular subject seriously, or they didn’t enjoy the entire course.

I’ve seen people pursuing multiple courses, one after the other but never complete university. Every year they are there. I keep wondering if they are the sons and daughters of Dons or relatives to the vice-chancellors. I’m not saying this to impress anybody. What I’m saying is real. Uganda- my country is where this happens. I mean, who has all that money to invest in almost all University courses? People go to study for a year, two, three or four years course and after that, I’m sure they would be ready to start job hunting if at all they aren’t having any. However, some students, after graduation, still want to clinch around the campus premises. On the day of graduation, everybody is expected to graduate but you will notice that some of them worked hard to contribute to their howling. I used to see them bounce as though they had apartments around town. Some make you feel as if they are lectures of a certain genre higher than the real ones that I knew. Let’s leave it there.

So, that day, you will see the deserters/failures yammer like the Coyotes in a desert. It’s is obvious they didn’t work hard to achieve the best of their luck. But what happened to them throughout the entire course duration?

Did you know that there are people who sit examinations for others? It is tried, in Uganda that’s possible. It’s by no rule/ law that people who use faked documents must be punished. Many University Alumni prioritize having other students sit for their exams under their name and that bows a business for the elites. I sit a paper for you, pay me $1000, at the end of the day, business is done. If a lawyer wants to pursue a master’s degree but has limited time to do that or has any fears of studying at an old age, what do they do? They will hire an elite young student to study under his/her name to produce the Masters’s degree document that they want. At the end of the year, that student is paid off. These are the type of students I was referring to. Students who do so much impersonation. They never complete studies as they use tactics running from one institution to another. It’s now an LLC business for them. That is being backed up by the Lawyer’s confidential standing. children who come from clear backgrounds, at the campus, do whatever they want with their money. They will never have time to go to the lecture room. But at the end of the semester, they have the best grades. All they do is hire someone to write exams for them and a lawyer is there ready to defend them should anything go wrong. It’s even simpler if a lecturer allies with a student and accepts bribes from them.

College students have the same behavior in common but at least, this is manageable under serious/ strict college rules, unlike campus.

Students do all this because they are trying to avoid having to re-sit an examination in a particular subject. They know their areas of weakness which at times can’t be improved.

My friend, it’s so hectic to have to re-sit an examination worse when you fail a paper or two in your first year. I still remember a scenario where students used to write three examination papers a day. Of course, everyone was yearning to go home for a holiday so, that pace was suggested and students agreed. It was so terrifying for those in year two who still had to re-sit year one exams. Imagine you writing two exams at the same time with no added time.

I had a friend who failed one subject but decided not to re-do it within the following year. We sat our exams in 2026!🤔 what? Lol.

Hold on, was it 2016, yes. So, he decide not to get back to college in 2017 to resit the paper simply because he was a fees defaulter. Second, to that, he never wanted the continuing students to see him return to retake a paper that he had failed. So, he stayed at home that entire year and it was by luck that he did so. All his colleagues who resat the paper that year failed and had to resist the second time in 2018 – My friend also joined them. So, if he had gone in 2017, he would have wasted a lot of money amidst being a defaulter.

I think it’s good to retake a paper other than giving up because it also rewards. Once a student retake’s a paper, they will surely learn never to take things slightly especially, those that concern their future. When they say, “Education is the Key” it’s not a simple saying. The late singer— Lucky Dube once said those words in his song and I love it. My pity only goes to those who might have failed due to natural factors which they couldn’t avoid in any way. My friend failed due to depression. He never felt the love of his family. His father didn’t welcome him into the family because he assumed he wasn’t his son. He was not treated as a son in the family but I always tried to give him comfort and he tried to perform well in other subjects.

#Final thoughts as I end this.

To those of you who still have the privilege to study, utilize your chance very well. Education isn’t just going to school or having good grades and documents of completion. It’s about;– “what have you learned?” “What can you do?” and “where is it taking you?” If you go to school only to get good papers out of a tutor, lecturer, or a teacher’s favor, you’re not going to make the best version of yourself. No job will need incompetent people. Good papers, enough knowledge, you make a good employee.
