How to FIND The 'Root Cause' With Conversational Hypnosis

What happens when we cannot find the root cause?

Well, a couple of things happen. First, we lose track of the unconscious moment, which is a very common thing to do, especially when you’re a new hypnotherapist.

The biggest problem I found was this as well; that’s how I know it’s a problem. You started to believe what your client was saying.

Now, if you catch yourself spinning around the symptom and you can’t break, it’s like, oh my God, I just can’t figure out what to do, but you’ve caught yourself doing it.

Great job. Because that’s usually the most challenging thing

That’s the first step – to catch yourself going around in circles with your client’s problems and never finding the actual root cause.

When you believe your client’s problem, you start believing their excuses. Your stuff comes up because you listen to a client’s story, and what do you start to do? You start to empathize.

“Oh, I feel sorry for you. Oh, I want to help you. I really do”. That’s a very, very hard place to be a therapist.

Why is that the case? Why we should stop sympathizing is fine.

You begin trying to solve your client’s problem – this is the second place to catch yourself.

We go into ‘fix-it’ because that’s what we have been hired to do.

It’s tough to fix a client’s problem when you start thinking that I wouldn’t stand for it if I had this problem in my life.

It’s very, very hard to be creative with your therapy when you’re trying to fix it. I mean, think of the pressure you put on yourself.

I said to you, I have a, I’m a smoker. I’ve been a smoker for 50 years. Fix me. Do it now…

Although we’re having a joke, your mind goes blank.

I wouldn’t even know where to start. It’s tough to be a therapist in that place.

So instead of trying to fix it, which spins around the symptom, get curious as to why that problem exists the way it does.

Because I know thousands of people who are not smokers. Why are they a smoker? Because it’s not universal. Why does it exist?

Being in this curious place allows you to explore the problem, not solve it; thus, you stop spinning around the symptom and stop putting pressure on yourself to solve it.

Think of a time where no matter how much training you have done, how confident you are as a hypnotherapist you mind goes blank.

You start doubting what hypnotic technqiues to use, what to say to your clients, how to help a client etc - and this all comes from going into 'fix-it' mode.

Its this pressure that forces your mind to become more conscious. And consciolsy is not where you have stored all of your training and hypnotic strategies.

Curiousty is more of an unconscious processes and where all the toolls, words, and strategies exist.

So if you feel thast pressure of wanting to solve a clients problem, cant get to the real root cause that is full of emotions, memories, throughts and feelings - take a step back and assess where you are as the hypnotherapist.

Are you curious? Or are you trying to fix the problem, show off or even prove to your client how good you are.

Its this shift in personality that will bring out the best hypnotherapist in you.
