The gatekeepers have closed the doors. Perhaps you do not fit their mold. Perhaps your background does not match their requirements, or your life circumstances prevent you from sitting in a cubicle for eight hours a day.

Do not despair. In fact, you should view this as a liberation.

The concept of a "job" is a relatively new invention. For most of human history, people did not have employers. They had customers. They did not have salaries. They had profits.

When the normal path is blocked, you must return to the fundamental law of economics. Money is not something given to you by a boss as a reward for obedience. Money is something you extract from the market in exchange for solving a problem.

If you cannot get a normal job, you must stop looking for an employer and start looking for a problem.

There are three specific paths to income that require no resume, no interview, and no permission.

The first path is the Service of Convenience.

Wealthy people have money, but they do not have time. They have problems they consider annoying. This is your opportunity. This includes cleaning gutters, hauling away junk, assembling furniture, or walking dogs. These tasks are not glamorous. That is exactly why they are profitable. The barrier to entry is low, but the barrier to effort is high. If you can show up on time and do the work that others feel is beneath them, you will never be poor.

The second path is the Digital Mercenary.

The internet has created a permissionless economy. You do not need a degree to learn a skill, and you do not need a hiring manager to sell it. Video editing, copywriting, transcription, and data entry are services you can learn in a week on YouTube.

Do not market yourself as an employee. Market yourself as a solution. Do not say "I need work." Say "I will edit your videos to increase your retention." Businesses do not care about your background. They care about their bottom line. If you can help them make money, they will pay you.

The third path is Arbitrage.

This is the art of finding value where others miss it. It is buying an item at a garage sale for five dollars and selling it on eBay for fifty. It is finding a free piece of furniture on the side of the road, sanding it down, and selling it on Marketplace. This requires zero bosses. It only requires a sharp eye and the willingness to do the legwork.

You must change your identity. You are not "unemployed." You are a business of one.

When you have a job, you have one point of failure. If your boss fires you, you lose 100% of your income. When you create your own income, you diversify your risk. You might lose one client, but you keep the others.

The world is full of problems. That means the world is full of money.

Stop asking for a seat at their table. Build your own.

Start today. Find one problem. Solve it. Charge for it. Repeat.
