We’re Screwed
Grocery stores on the west coast had to shut down last week. Workers pulled meat and perishables off the shelves because refrigerators were malfunctioning under the extreme temperatures. They threw away what had already gone bad and covered the rest in plastic to keep it from thawing. That’s what happened in Washington during a heat dome that killed hundreds and split roads open. Massive pyro-storms unleashed hundreds of thousands of lightning strikes across Canada over a single night. Entire towns burned to the ground. Once again, meteorologists told everyone they’d “never seen anything like this.”

More Than Organic Gardening
Permaculture This phrase was coined by Bill Mollison, one of the pioneers in the practice of designing permanent agriculture ("permaculture") systems. More specifically, it is the integration of specific principles to create an ecosystem which is productive, stable, and diverse...while considering the existing environment and natural ecosystems.

Are Original Formulas Always Better???
Back in the 1990's I had ordered a men's cologne sampler for my then boyfriend, Jason, from Caswell-Massey, the oldest apothecary brand in the United States dating back to 1752. I really liked their botanical scents and commitment to refrain from animal testing. Jason really liked the citrusy scent of Number Six, reportedly from the original formula that George Washington enjoyed. Yet, as an advocate for endangered species, I wondered...wouldn't an original formula from the 1700's contain ingredients derived from whales?!?!?

Learning To Live off The Land.
The Corona Virus pandemic prompted me to learn how to live off of the land. Every trip to the store showed me empty shelves and a lack of fresh produce. With the fear in my mind that my family would starve I decided to try my best to live off the land. Fortunately for me I live In house with a very decent size yard. For those who aren’t so lucky I recommend pots and planters for a nice porch or balcony garden.

Traveling Souls
It has been over three hundred years since I was a human—once a beetle, then a bird, a cat, and now a pear tree—I grow on a farm and observe humanity. I reflect on the magical story that never ends about the journey of souls on Planet Earth. Souls are born into bodies, they live, they die, and life begins again. A soul is a grasshopper, a duck, then a fly; a soul occupies a different body in each life. They experience the world as a tiger and then become a wife. Their child in their wife-life becomes their sibling in the next, then the pear tree in their orchard, then their best friend. The beauty and magic of the never-ending souls: the humans do not even know! They are not aware they will live again!

Should we stop flying to help save the environment?
Note: Before offering my argument, this piece has a backstory. In August 2021, I submitted a job application to an online education company. Part of the application required that I write a short, persuasive essay about a topic of my choosing. The idea was that with this essay in hand, the company would be able to determine my ability to advance debate topics in the form of writing.

Conserving our Earth by using alternative(clean energy) source
Since sunlight is a renewable source, its direct use can be achieved by producing its own energy. In addition to solar panels that convert their light into electricity, solar-powered plants use mirrors to focus on the sun's heat to produce thermal energy.

What Happens To Solar Panels During A Power Outage?
Most of the residential and commercial buildings in the US, especially Texas are going solar. When it comes to going Solar, there are so many things to think about. Do you want batteries for extra backup? Do you want to go completely Solar or still rely on the power grid? Among such other things, the question of whether Solar Panels work when there is no electricity emerges. What do you think happens to Solar Panels during a power outage?
