After much movie-watching, researching about film, and a thought-provoking conversation or two, I ask myself: is "The Western" a genre of a film, or just the setting of one? How do you define it? If John Wayne isn't the star, is it even a Western? Do people still even make western films?

To Feed the Beast is to Feed the People?
To develop a critical understanding of hunger and its relationship to the food system one must first understand the political motivation and mechanisms underlying the production of labor behind the modern food system. The real root problem of hunger has never been addressed by western society. Food injustice brews in Western Societies inequitable class system; Capitalism. A mistruth continues to grow; its hunger worsens. Band Aids, or ‘token solutions’ have been applied to the problem instead (Poppendieck 1998). How long will the bandage hold?

The Ones with Charmed Lives
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. The story that the old ones passed down was that once the dragons were hummingbirds, and before that, they were angels. As the hummingbirds lost their voices, their bright and colorful feathers vanished. Their bodies expanded and their wings became vast, dark, and leathery creaking appendages that snapped like sails as they beat against the sky. Those newborn dragons eventually became Mara– our demons. They shrieked and howled as they circled the kingdom like vultures, bruising the earth with their heavy shadows, weighing it down in their rage and sorrow.

Disabled people in the UK are facing an almost impossible choice between heating their homes or finding the right food that they need to survive. The cost of energy has been rising month after month and due to problems with the supply of raw materials from Russia or Ikraine. Ever since Russia invaded and countries from Western Europe have come to their defence, Rissia has threatened retaliation by created problems in the supply of crude oil and other raw materials. People who receive benefits to help with their every day essentials or care needs may find that they may have to give up other essential services in order to be able to afford the things that they need to survive. The increase in the cost of energy can have many different causes, the majority of which can stem from Russia's special military operation with Ukraine.
