Pakistan has a rich and ancient history that dates back to the very first centuries CE. Its earliest inhabitants were people of the Indus Valley Civilization who were most likely Dravidians from the North West, specifically Sindh.

When the Islamic Empire invaded the region in the 8th century CE, the region became a part of the Islamic world and centuries later the Mughal Empire took control of the region. The region was also the site of many battles between the Mughals, Afghans, and Mughal vassal states.

In the 18th century, the East India Company began its ambitious project of colonizing the region and eventually a part of it, present-day Bangladesh, became a part of British India.

Throughout the 19th century, the movement for a separate Muslim nation grew stronger and eventually in 1947, when British India was partitioned into the separate nations of India and Pakistan, Pakistan was born. This was accompanied by a mass migration of Muslims out of India and into Pakistan.

Pakistan initially was made up of two main parts - East Pakistan and West Pakistan - but in 1971, East Pakistan became Bangladesh due to a conflict between East and West Pakistan.

Pakistan is home to a diverse range of cultures and peoples, and its cities and rural areas have long been the sites of numerous archaeological discoveries.

The old city of Lahore is also a popular tourist destination in Pakistan. Here, visitors can explore its ancient architecture, vibrant bazaars, and traditional markets. The nearby Shalimar Gardens, Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, and Mughal tombs are also must-see attractions.

The river Indus is another amazing spot to visit in the country. It is lined with charming villages and towns, and offers a truly unique experience in terms of nature and culture. The Swat Valley is also an excellent option, full of stunning rock formations, beautiful valleys, and is also home to some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries.
