The history of India is vast and complex, stretching back over 5000 years. The Indus Valley Civilization is considered one of the earliest in world history, with its decline leading to the rise of newer civilizations such as the Hindu culture around 1500 BC. Ancient India saw some of the earliest religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism developing and becoming widespread. It also saw the rise and fall of some of the world’s greatest empires such as the Mauryan, Gupta, Mughal, and the British Raj.
