As green as the leaves,
the earth climbs into the sky like a vine
The mountains are tall and jagged, almost reaching as high
They tower over the rippled body below
blending air into our hair, making a luscious glow
The blue, it’s hue, dives down, deep into the ocean
It swims among me and you
while we frolic through the thick wet grass in slow motion
We crawl onto the sand with our hands and knees
And feel the grit between our fingertips until we reach the trees and see the bark askew
We listen to the wind whistle through our ears
Knowing that it’s calling us home too soon
It takes no blame, as the leaves rustle our names
Filling our souls with the sound of Mother Nature
The earth, it sees all that we do
Knowing the treachery human kind pursues
It embraces our bodies, through touch, through moss, through soil
But it doesn’t waste too much time in turmoil
The roots, they try to consume our mess
But they are unable to gorge on our lively flesh
Mother Nature understands we will soon curb its crave
Because she is one smart grave
We fall to our backs and watch as the sun touches the horizon
Our eyes are heavy with sleep and the earth becomes a syphon
It breathes us in and bathes our skin in a glow of moonlight wrything
And in this time, we commit a crime
That makes Mother Nature weep
She wants our souls, our flesh, and fuel and prays we will soon fall into a heavy sleep
But we are lost in our garden or love
As the man in the sky replaces the sun above
When our flesh cools like stones in the ground
We dream of a world so abundantly round
The earth, it prays, for us to leave
Because it thinks we don’t grieve
For the daily damage we cause
But it doesn’t stop and take a pause
Because we are sickening to it’s core
And it knows we will soon belong to it once more
It knows us only as the enemy
Because we aren’t rooted to its earth like the trees
It tries and fails to take us home
But we are not weak, nor ever alone
We sleep throughout the night
Without fear or fright, with only insight
To the days ahead, we see
Our future, so bright and free
Oh, Mother Earth, we seek justice and peace
We are yours, but only in our dreams
We feel your pull as we sleep so deep
But we are not yet yours to keep
When we wake, it’s with the rising sun in the sky
And we see the multitude of colors in our eyes
We rise like the purple flowers in your mourning few
But we begin our day with the seeds we lay for you
Stop those tears and your endless fears
We are not all the same
Because some of us take no blame
For what happens to you
And everything that you grew
Mother Nature, don’t doubt us - we will always find a way to take care of you
You cannot have us just now
But fear not, when it is time for us to rot
We will be proud to go into the ground
And become one with you
Our souls are ours until we die
And though you’re raining now, don’t cry
Your tears grow what you have survived
And we are not yet ready to be un-alived
Mother Nature, we seek your shelter and love
And we are yours, in life, fitted to you like a glove
We will protect thee
For as long as you allow us to be free
