Self Reflection

It is New Year’s Eve,

And I am alone.

Why am I alone?

Because for once in my life,

I choose to be alone with me.

It is New Year’s Eve,

And I am alone with my thoughts.

Why do I allow myself to feel this way?

Because for once in my life,

I choose myself over everyone else.

It is New Year’s Eve,

And by choice, I am home alone by myself.

Why did I allow this to happen?

Because I know I don’t have to cater to anyone

Other than me.

It is New Year’s Eve,

And I feel very alone.

Why do I feel so alone?

Because I spent the last ten years of my life

Taking care of other people who didn’t

Take care of me.

It is New Year’s Eve,

And even though I am alone,

I know this is good for me.

It is New Year’s Eve,

And I am okay being alone

Because I never learned

To love me.

It is New Year’s Eve,

And I am alone.

But I wouldn’t feel so alone

If I had actually taken care of me.

It is New Year’s Eve,

And I choose to only be with me.
